Østjysk Open

When April comes in Denmark, its time for one of the 2 annual model shows the other being held in late autumn, Aside from that we have a bi-annual IPMS event.

Østjysk Open is arranged skillfully by a little group of dedicated people in Randers that year after year have put a lot of energy and effort into giving us a great day out with fellow modelers, a lot of gossip and fine shopping opportunities.
Its always interesting participating in Randers, as the voting is done by the participating modelers, except for the "Best of Show" award which is “votable” by all, spectators and participants alike.

The show is held in a old and charming theater, that unfortunately is plagued by bad light for taking photos, even if the sun is shining its hard to get the colors right.
Without counting its my guess that the number of participants in the competition was fewer than last year - with some of the classes being somewhat meager.

You will notice that sci-fi related models are strewn out among more orthodox subjects - this comes from there not being a specific sci-fi/fantasy class, so you have to put up your sci-fi models where they fit best - like a Y-wing in the aircraft class.
It’s a pity for all, as it tends to pollute the classes, and the sci-fi sometimes don’t get the attention it deserves. This years "best of show" though was a beautiful studio scale scratch build of a Y-wing - well deserved as it really is a stunning model.
Aside form the little nit-pick about the classes, then it’s a fine show that I’m personally looking forward attending to each year.

Enjoy the pictures. I haven’t taken the time to shoot all the winners, but if you are interested, you can find them at the shows homepage: Ostjysk-Open
