Plastikmodellbauclub Lübeck

An early Saturday morning, a light frost, but otherwise sunny and promising. The car was packed and ahead was a 3½ hours drive from Silkeborg to Lübeck with stops in Fredericia and Kolding to pick up the other 2 members of the “pizzaclub”. We were so ready for the bi-annual modelshow in the Musik- und Kongresshalle in Lübeck, northern Germany.

It was the first time I had the possibility of participating in this model show, which is competently arranged by the Plastikmodellbauclub Lübeck (http://www.pmcl.de) and is focused on display of models and sales of kits and all things related. There is no competition involved, which, in a way is rather nice, since it probably draws more models to the show, and gives a wider variety of genres and scales.

The show covers the whole area and there’s plenty of opportunity to replenish your stash. There were quite few new kits available and an impressive selection of etch, resin figures, updates and a lot of secondhand kits for sale at the various exhibits.

One thing that struck me was the relatively large representation of 1:72 and 1:87 items, both as exhibits, but also for sale.

Ahead of the show we had arranged to stay overnight from Saturday to Sunday, and spend the first day at the show and the second sightseeing, maybe at the Panzer-museum in Munster. We ended up going back to the show on Sunday – so no sightseeing on this occasion.

In advance I had been In contact with our own very skilled modeler “Tailor” from MSW, as he had very generously promised to show me the “ropes” in the art of making rigging on ship models – Thanks mate! “Tailor was”, like many others, present with a bunch of modeling friends – “the German Gamblers” and a nice ship related stand. In general a lot of clubs and interest groups were present and showing of their particular branch of the hobby. So everything from papermodels (very impressive) over civilian airliners, spacecrafts, dioramas, RC-tanks, adventure scenes etc. was present, providing a lot to look at.

All in all a very nice weekend - albeit a bit expensive due to the many temptations, and a very funny evening at the local brewery – which the staff and other guest probably won´t forget ….. HAaaaarrrgh!

Finally, I would like to apologize for the quality of the pictures, the light in the hall wasn´t the best and I had forgot to bring my tripod – I hope the pictures will do in providing a little taster from this nice and well run show.
