This is my second project underway. It's Ferdinand from Dragon (the 6317 kit). It will be the n°624 from the box art, with some changes seen on the pics of real #624
few pics of the real #624
my ferdy:
Little modifications I made: spare track links (not glued yet) moved from the front fenders to the front (I looked on the photos I have and IMO the links were put as I did), the jack and the wooden block were moved from the front to the rear of the tank. Three grip handles on the rear were glued and than cut off (the did it to prevent those nasty Russians to climb on the top of the vehicle ). All of those modifications were made by the crew.

Looks very good so far. Great to base your vehicle on so accurate photos. Seldom do we get so many clear photos of the same vehicle.
Looking forward to see more - thanks for sharing

Hi Spit,
as far as I know (and the pics of #624 show), this one lacked the rainguards, running from the gun mount down to the sides on the front side of the fighting compartment.
Please keep us informed and post the process...

Thanks Volters, well I feel like a complete beginner (that I almost am ) how could I miss those rain guards... I tried to take them off but the super glue I used is strong.... well that was going to b my first tank based on a real vehicle LOL. It was...
Well, let's pass on, here you have 3 pics with base dunkelgrun done. The paint I bought for DG was far too green (MM autentic) so the final color was a kind of experiment as I mixed few paints to obtain this color:
-MM AUTENTIC 2095 DK
- 2 yellows (Humbrom and MM)
- red Humbrol 60
- white Humbrol
here's what came out of this:
One small question. What color should be applied in the wholes for the small firearms and the interior of the plug? I would say the base red oxide.
thanks for reading

Hi Spit,
nothing lost You'll may find pics of other Ferdinands with those rainguards fitted. Here you'll find them : http://grayknight.narod.ru/Ferds_Kursk_43/Ferds_Kursk_43.htm (probably the same source, you get your pics from...)
As far as the color of the pistol ports is concerned, I'm not sure, but the pics don't show much contrast, so I would leave them dunkelgelb/dark yellow.
Cheers

I thought doing the camo freehand but... I was afraid to spoil it. I decided to use masking (patafix with paper on it). It's hard work
For now one side has been done.

Hi Spit,
i'm curious, about your process. Don't worry about spoiling the camo, since the original camo is very uneven Just look at the first pic.
Good luck

It will be interesting to see how this progress and how your system works. It looks good and as a failsafe way to ensure not to ruin the paint job.
Looking forward to see more

Hi I've changed the idea about the camo... and I corrected it free hand. I find it better and more realistic. I added wheels with the first step on weathering. The tracks are also on but they need painting.
nest step will be gloss, the rest of the decals (I've already put some of them before correcting the camo pattern), and all the weathering stuff.
cheers

Great job on the camouflage. Definently an improvement to correct it with free hand airbrushed camo.

Hi, Vacaions finally finished so I can go back to my little beast.
Decals are done, first treatment of tracks done (painted black with metallic dry brush). I see now that there are many places where the tracks are not painted. It's a real hell. I should have painted them before putting them on or make them before gluing upper and lower hull. I also made the wash with brown van dyke + burnt sienna. I don't really know if it looks like it should. I'm completely novice in complete washes - before I was trying to make some pin washes. Any input welcomed.
thx for reading

Hi Spit. I really like your ferddy and loved how you made the camo. It turned out pretty well, but the extra steps you made, make a huge difference. The percentage of green appeared to be too much, but looks much better in the later photos. I wish my models were this good on my second attempt. A nice flat cote nowand some pastels on the lower hull and running gear will really make for a great model.
