Hey guys,
This is my first tank I've put together and the first one that I've painted. I just wanted to get your opinions before I proceed to correct all the mistakes that I can find and you guys can point out (I have only started on the rear of the tank and the barrel of the main gun, I am going to finish last.) The camo is supposed to be ambush type and I am planning on this diorama being placed somewhere in the western front. Also, I would like to add some chicken wire to the tank so I can attach some vegetation (like they did back in the day ). Is it possible to scratch build the chicken wire netting or are there other products I can use?
Here are the photos (remember it's WIP and I am going to correct all the mistakes, I just wanted to know if the lay out looked good and if not, how I could improve it):
Thanks for reading this,
Luke

Hi cheaky,
About the paint job you've done.
First of all I don't think Tigers I had sharp edged camo with dots (someone correct me if I'm wrong here). The pattern you used is kinda original for me too original. Did you take some time to look over the net how it was done? The dots are far too big for me. Colors are ok. Maybe only the green is too green. but after weathering, wash, filters etc it will change color. I can't exactly see the road wheels but they should receive a solid base color layer and then some camo pattern.
There are many websites about Tigers. Look for example here: http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/tiger1.htm
I would forget. If it is not a initial Tiger I (can't be with ambush camo pattern) a coat of zimmerit is a must.
If you want some camo patterns from Normandy go there http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10042013 and click on pictures in the "color" line.
Don't know if you'll be able to correct some points without starting everything from the beginning.
Hope it helps

Thanks for the help
If I start again, It will be the third time!! I have a book that has a lot of different camo patterns on Tiger 2, I thought the Tiger 1 would have used a similar pattern :S
I'll scrub it again!
Thanks for the help. I would have hated to gotten too much further on the model and had to scrub.

I have taken on your advice and scrubbed the tank and started again (I'm getting faster every time!).
Here is my latest attempt. I have not started with the barrel of the main gun yet.
Does the scheme look somewhat correct? I still need to fix up the boarders of each colour and make some of them less straight. And then I will weather it a fair bit and try and make the paint look faded. Did not want to spend lots of time doing that if the general scheme is incorrect of western Europe.
Also, How do you go about making paint look faded?
Thanks again,
Luke

Well as for me I have not seen a TigerI painted in that scheme.
Not to say their was not one.
But the Germans in WW2 were pretty much by the book from what I have read.
Just like the United States Army.
Here are a few links to help you out.

Cheaky,
The scheme is somewhat fanciful, but if you're interested in flexing your paint mussels rather than complete historical accuracy, then hold onto it.
Its good to ask for tips and for help, but remember that ultimatly it is you who needs to be happy with the finished product. If building a what-if scheme is what you want to do, then go ahead and do it.
Before doing anything else I'd have a second go around to fix up the edges and fill in the spots where the yellow is poking through. Then put on the tools, tow cables, etc.
If you don't have an airbrush I'd get some spray cans of gloss coat and flat coat.
gloss coat the model. Put on some decals and do your washes and then follow that up with a flat coat and additional weathering

Thanks for the replies guys.
I wish I had an airbrush BornToDig. I am going to buy one when I move out of the place I am living now (in an apartment with no garage)
I am not looking for an exact copy (I don't even want to have the tank number on there (make the paint very faded), so it could look like some generic tiger instead of one with lots of history (that I know nothing about), just something that looks right (should have chose a more common camo style). Anyways, I chose to base my scheme off the middle one in this pic. I just wish they gave a birds eye view of the scheme. I am going to try and make the yellow areas of the scheme a little thiner.
Thanks again.
Luke

What I used to mask the camo on my panther (see finished panther G post a couple down) I masked with blu-tak and then sprayed with paint I got at hobby lobby. I can't afford an airbrush and while brush painting looks good, I think your Tiger would look great if you bought three cans of spray paint! Stick with the creative schemes, I like it!

Thanks for the comments SPerk15. I might try spraying on my next tank. I never even considered it before .
Anyways, I am finally happy with a camo scheme
Here:
Not finished, I want to leave it for a few days and then take another look and find all the mistakes.

Thanks I will try zimmerit next time, when I am a little better
The kit is Dragon 6253 Late tiger 3 in 1. I really liked building it. Just wish I dident glue the road wheels on first . I tried to break the glue so I could move them about, but i just snapped the wheel off! Live and Learn!)

Cheaky,
Nice camo,
I wouldn't bother too much with getting everything right this time around.
Are you just starting out in modeling?

Spitfire: I am going to use them, I just found it difficult to paint through them last time so I took them off and will reapply them after I have painted the inside of the grills properly.
marcb: I use to make warhammer miniatures (never played the game) then I took notice of scale miniatures.. Wish I had of earlier! But this is my first scale model.
Thanks for the comments.
