Hi all,
The build log option has appeared after I posted the building stages of this model, so here only starts the painting and weathering build log.

So, I finally got time enough to start painting my VAB. The base coat is French sandgrey from Lifecolor. Then I applied a mix of Tamiya Dark Yellow, Yellow and White to get the sand tone over which I sprayed the brown patches in Tamiya Red Brown. All is freehand painted as during operation Daguet (Desert Storm) the camo was applied without much rigour !

Nice looking paint scheme. Is that a full interior you have in there?

Have you used any Blast Models kit on it? I have the Heller VAB and I'm slowly purchasing the various upgrades at the mo. The model was 13 pounds and the upgrades are nearly 90 pounds! If mine looks anything like yours after it all I will be very happy. I'll be watching this one with great interest.

Nice work, I did one of those a couple of years ago and almost lost my mind.

Very appealing camouflage also, looking forward to see it finished

Cheers

Hi Paul,
I have the driver comparment set from Blast and a very basic Milan variant interior from Azimut. I had to scratchbuild most of the racks and various stowing brackets you find in this specific VAB.

If you go there http://photos.kitmaker.net/showgallery.php?cat=14669 you can see some pics of the interior in progress.

I used the driver compartment set and the engine compartment too. The wheels are a must have. Concerning the interior set, it depends if you intend to have your model with the hatches open or not.IIRC the Blast set is good for the newer VAB, Azimut did one for the early VAB. You can get the Eduard sets. I reviewed both sets in my site (click my banner and select the reviews button).

Looks great with the camouflage. Looks like sort of a sprayed "hard edge" pattern. Is this the official pattern?

Good job so far. Keep us updated.

Thanks for the comments. Yes this is the official pattern. The brown patches match the ones of the three-tone camo. When the vehicles were painted they got a sand base on which were sprayed the brown patches.
We still have some VAB painted that way but they tend to dispappear with the upgrade program.

Hi all,
after a long time without posting and building, I'm back !
The VAB is quite complete. It still needs some weathering and the crew gear which will be stowed on PSP plates on the sides.

Here are the pics :

This is nearly the end. I still need to give it some pastel chalks toget a more dusty look and find a good figure to seat on the roof in the hatch near the firing post.

Hi Seb
in fact, under the troop compartment sides, there are two rings in which wooden rods are fixed. The PSP are laying on these rods like in real life. Another way to secure the PSP, is some wire. This was only seen during Ops Daguet, we don't do this anymore.

Hi all,
after some of your comments, I decided to add some straps and ties for the PSP plates and the crew gear bags.
I used some pigments too to give it the dusty look.

Pete, I just have seen the "Hide User" button at the bottom of each post. Maybe have you click it. Just a guess !
