Hi Folks,
Finally completed touching up the KT. Here's what I done since the last post:
Decals then another layer of clear coat
washes with oil paint, followed by dull cote
dry brushing acrylic (german grey for the body, silver for the tracks)
mig powders
pls do comment and thanks for looking!
PS: Link to my previous progress post.
Cheers!

Great paint job and not to much weathering way I like it.
Some will say needs to be beat to hell but good for me ,clean build.
Two things to me still a bit shiney, and maybe a few more chips and wear where folks enter and leave it .
Great build,two thumbs up

Very nice build. I know there will be those who will ask why you didn't add zim, but I like em both ways. Thanks for sharing!

Most King Tigers were delivered without Zimmerit. It was discontinued in September, 1944.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I cant seem to reduce the shining despite the triple layer of dull cote applied. I used 50/50 lacquer and thinner mix. Any suggestions?

What was the actual purpose for Zimmerit?

Zimmerit was an anti-magnetic mine paste, to keep those pesky brits from blowing one up too easy

It looks very good. A good job on that KT. Some of them only had camouflage applied to the sides - not on top of the hull and turret. However, yours could be one of them with camouflage on top as well.

is this from the dragon kit? i believe it's supposed to be a tank which saw action during the ardennes offensive (battle of the bulge for most) in 1944. and yes, KTs then had no zimmerit.
i really like your build. it's a nice break from all the beat up tanks we often see. a bit more chipping/scratching around the hatches, schuerzens (armor skirts) and high traffic areas probably wouldn't hurt. perhaps a slight dusting of pastels or pigments could also help tone down the shine? not that it bothers me. great job overall though.

Hi Rovik,
Thanks for the comments! Yes, Its a DML kit, based on Ardennes offensive. I actually did some light dusting, but I guess, too light.... Let's see how it turns out when I do some touch up.
Cheers!

I really like how the tracks turned out. Nice job!
As for the dull coat. I have not used any finish (gloss or matte) through my airbrush; I still rattle-can those. I find that the gloss coat gets covered well with two or three light coats of matte.

Looks great lah.
I really like to see well done KTs. Maybe the humidity is affecting the shine. I lived there for 3 years, I know humidity.

I like Polly S Clear Flat. Works great. Just make sure to apply it in thin coats. It does not require thinning. Hope that makes sense. Also make sure to stir it really well before spraying it.

yes, king tigers did fight without zimmerit particularly after the latter half of 1944 when zimmerit use was discontinued. probably the most famous engagements were during the battle of the bulge where a number of king tigers were involved. if you want more info and have the spare change, i recommend the book sledgehammers: strengths and flaws of the tiger tank battalions of world war 2 by christopher wilbeck. it's not a particularly exciting read but it has lots of technical info on both th tiger and king tiger including organizational charts (if you're into that thing) of the heavy tank battalions (schwere panzer abteilung) where they belonged.

Looks like a well done job.
About Zimmerit.
Yes, the application of Zimmerit was dropped in September 1944. But that does not mean that all of a sudden, Zimmerit disappeared from all tanks.
The Tiger-Bs with the new single link tracks used as a test in the BoB all had Zimmerit, as these were older ones.
Also, there are plenty of Tiger-Bs with the simplified turret that had Zimmerit applied. All of the 50 first initial turreted Tiger-Bs, except those used for testing, had a coat of Zimmerit.
There is one thing about the lack of Zimmerit and camouflage, this implies that the camouflage was applied at the factory in a hard edge scheme.
