Hey, folks! I ran across a post where somebody had found a conversion kit for a Leopard 1A5 to make it the C2... can a Leopard 1A4 or a Leopard 2 be converted also? Or is it major work?

I'm not familiar with the Leopard 1A4 but I guess there will be some work on the turret. Leopard 2 is a totally different vehicle from the Leopard 1 and is not suited for a C2.

Hopefully all can be answered here .
Basically the 1A3/A4 won't work (welded slab-sided turret) as opposed to the 1A5 turret of a Canadian Leo C2 (rounded cast turret). As mentioned, the Leo 2 is a totally different beast.
C1 on the other hand...
Confused yet?
Jim

You can only use the Leo 1 A4's Hull, the turret is welded as opposed to the Cast one used for the C2. The Older C1 had the welded but the C2 upgrade basically kept the hulls and replaced the turrets with new ones from Germany. Since the old and VERY hard to find Revell Leopard 1A5 kit is the only one with the add on turret armor you have to have that kit to make a C2.

Hmmm... Jim, Andrew... fellas... this sort of gives me a bit of an idea, here...
Somebody has to make an AM turret that could be used for the conversion, don't they? A fella could probably do both with a little bit of work.....
On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with doing a C1 only. I just am sort of feeling the need to do something Canadian, here. Funny how so many other nations are well-represented in the modelling community (particularly the US and Germany,) but ours seems to be left behind.
What about a Centurion? Does anything need to be done (other than decals) to convert that to the Canadian model?

There is no aftermarket turret for the Leopard 1A5.
You can use the Revell-Germany Leopard 1A1A1-A14 kit (also hard to find but easier than the 1A5 kit)and get the Maple Leaf Models Leopard 1A5 parts MLM1014.
There are a few Canadian Centurion variants so your question is somewhat broad...the AFV Club NATO Centurion needs some modifications to make it a Canadian tank.
This site will be up your alley for Canadian armour....

There are no longer any specific decals made for Canadian Centurions.
There are plenty of base kits and conversions to build Canadian armour from the 1950s to the present day. The key is do do the research so you know how the vehicles were modified for Canadian service.
-Leopard C1 early
-Leopard C1 late
-Leopard C1 MEXAS
-Leopard C2
-Lynx
-M109
-Cougar
-Grizzly
-Centurion
-Iltis
-M113
-M548
-M38A1 Jeep
-M151A2...74 Pattern Jeep
