Hi all,

Well, it's been almost a year in the making, but I finally have the basic paint and camo applied to my Panther F.

My idea was to have a Panther F for the defense of Berlin later in the war (if they ever made it to production by then). Being a "Paper Panzer", I was able to use artistic license on the camo scheme using four colors for a modified splinter type theme (think the battleship Bismarck). Perhaps someone from the Kreigsmarine was visiting the field that day they were camoing it up and brought some battleship grey along? Perhaps it received such an elaborate scheme because it was a very valuable asset at that stage of the war, and needed to be protected as such?? Who knows??? That's half the fun of Paper Panzers!

Anyway, here are a few pics.

Masking the hard edges:

Finished scheme:

It still needs some small items, tow cables, spare tracks, wheels, etc.

Comments welcomed.

Hi Mike,

First off hope you are enjoying those kits you got a while back

Try this to see if you can view the pics. Right click one of the "Dreaded Red X's", then select Properties (if your running Windows of course). Copy the Address:(URL) and paste it into a new browser window, then click Go. This should open the pic in a new browser window. Close that window, and you should be able to see all the pics in my post.

Hope this works for you.

It's very WW-1 in style .

The camo on the barrel is very nicely executed, how did you do that?

I'm interested to see the finished one, even though it is a highly unlikely scheme.

I've got my own Panther-F waiting for it's paintjob, but first got to get the home done!

Looks good so far - a very striking "what if" camouflage scheme.

Thanks for sharing

Since it's camo it probably shouldn't do this but, it really got my attention. Turned out great.

Hi Herbert,

The barrel was probably the easiest part of the scheme to paint. It's simply masked off in a random wavy pattern using Silly Putty, then sprayed randomly with the camo colors.

Thanks for commenting!

That paint scheme would stick out like a sore thumb coming or hiding inside a bunch of bushes or forestry LOL. I like that pattern though but what exactly is the scheme?

Hi Gorgoth,

The scheme is a modified battleship splinter type, with a healthy dose of imagination, I had envisioned this tank being used in the defense of Berlin, city street fighting ot just on the outskirts of town. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

It's not entirely fictional. IIRC DB delivered late Ausf. G camo'ed in broad straight bands of Rot Braun, Oliv Grun and Dunkel Gelb, very much like this paint job is showing.

There's several pics showing these Panthers.

The initial pics were also the red "X's", but the revised pictures showed up. Nicely done! I like it! Unique, some artistic licensing...not a typical run of the mill 3-tone German camo scheme!

How were you able to keep the lines straight, given all the contours of the turret and hull? Have had a hard time in the past with that, you've made it look easy.

Looking forward to the finished pictures!

Cheers!

Hi Tim,

That was pretty tricky in its own right! To start, I made some photocopies of the plan view on the Panther. After sketching the scheme, I used this as a refrence. The broad stripes were freehand aribryshed using the sketch as a refrence point. I would say to myself, " this one stripe starts near the spare track holders and goes to the crew heater, then, etc etc". I made very light lines at first in case I screwed it up lol. Basically, i just went point to point for the stripes like that, not working at a 90 degree angle to the surfaces, until the stripes looked right. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say, it is a bit difficult to explain on the 'net! The hard edges were sone with masking tape when the grey was laid down last.

HTH,
Matt
