Here is the T-35 I have been working on that seems like forever. I took out all the machine guns and added to rust to make it look like an abandoned by the crew and then taken by the Germans. I took out the rear MG and added a port on the main turret, took off all the tools, used Edurads detial set, and metal tracks, and built a spare track holder. I will get put in a dio with some guys looking at the engines , another guy getting left items from inside, and a guy with a paint can by the newly painted german cross. I am not really happy with the 4 sub turrest as no matter what I did the putty never smoothed out. Any comments on it would be great.

Nice tank, but- maybe -since it is an abandoned by the crew tank, needs more weathering.

I thought so to but I could not find any photos of T-35 that showed them heavly weathered. Their service life was really short and with this one taken place in July 41 it really would not have had much time to get weathered that much.

Scott,

If I'm being brutally honest, I really don't like that black Balkenkreuz at all.

Of course it's your build, but if it were me planning to do what you have in mind, I'd lose that Balkenkreuz altogether and instead have the guy wielding a paint brush and ABOUT to paint it on the tank.

I know it's supposed to look like a hastily painted cross, but somehow it just doesn't look right, and it detracts from what is otherwise looks like a very nice build (though I'd agree with Petros that more weathering wouldn't go amiss - tanks can muddy up very quickly in the field!).

As for the sub-turrets, from where I'm looking I can't see any problem with them at all.

And I do like the swastika flag - if you made that yourself, you did a fine job.

Hi Scotty,

Nice work, what colour did you paint it? I'd probably agree that the tank looks too new; I'd give it a very light airbrush dusting followed by some pigments where dirt and dust would gather, even though it barely saw action.

I got this kit in my stash and plan to build it soon. I might make it a log build, so if you have any tips let me know.

Cheers

Painted it with Testors Dark Green then came some Sin filters followed by a few brown washes then tamiya buff wash finally some dusting. It looks much dirtier in person. The photos came out way brighter then it is. I love to battle damage but I could not find any pics of these damaged unless they were destoried. Out of 60 tanks I think 2/3 were lost to mechanical problems. I am not a fan of chipped paint. I think this is one area that is way over down. I studied a lot of pics and our models have more paint chips on them then the real things did. I think I will work on the German cross or add a officer yelling at an enlisted man for the crappy job he did. All in all I am pretty happy as this is my first major build after coming back to the hobby after 10 years off.
As far as the kit goes the PE set is good but still has some issues trying to replace 3d parts with 2d ones. I highly recommend the LAndship book on the T-35 . The CMK new barrels and other stuff is very good but need alot of fitting. I tried to add the weld marks to the sub turrets but it did not go well. I would either them them off or use the small set of weld marks that Archer makes as I found no other way to make them small enough. I did add some flame cuts on the mg turrets and some texture to the main turret as well as replacing the rear mg ball mount with a port. GO with the metal tracks as well, they are much better and easier then the kit ones. THe inside of the hatches are a best guess looking at T-35 and T-28 pics. Researching this I found no less then 6 vartions of the T-35. I belive everyone was built somewhat different. Sometimes the weld marks on turrest where there sometime not, sometimes plates were flat sometimes there was a lip. Other differance include of course the stright turrets and sloped one, but little differance as tool and track storage also. It was a fun build but it will awhile befoe I do another one. I actually had to get 2 kits as the first ones hull was so bably wrapped that it could not be strightened out. I plan on using the turrents on a Russian kit I have of a 1/35th scale WWII boat. Boat looks similar to the destoried on MIG makes but it is a complete kit not 1/2 suken. I am taking a brealk and doing some easy stuff before tackling that monster.

What happened to Scott & his T-35??

They seem to have just vanished. Have they been beamed up by extraterrestrials??
