Okay so it's not quite done. There is still some tweaking to be done. But it's real close. I'd say about 99.98% done. Almost.

I've added a few extra cans of pop and some water bottles.

Hey Matt,

Those bottles, where "can" i find / buy them and what brand are they??

Keep on spamming UR work m8.

Matt,

I picked up the October 2008 issue of Scale Military Modeller International (Vol 38, Iss 451) the other day.

Your Tuskers Abrams just isn't done justice with only the cover, 3 pages and 11 photos! But you deserve a hearty "Congradulations!!" anyway, since few of us are ever "published".

The article doesn't show your excellent base with the Tuskers logo and doesn't even mention the tire you put in the water in the corner, but I guess you were limited to what would fit into the space allowed. If you had put the photos and all of the information contained in 10 web pages of your build blog on Armorama, you would have your very own issue!

Well done and EXCELLENT work!! Keep up the great models!

Thanks for the support Martyn. Glad you like the figures. I must have painted a few of them a dozen times before I felt they looked right.

Well Neil. Here we are. Page 11.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures to show of the new one just yet. Still trying to get a few more details ironed out before construction begins. I want this to be my best work ever so I'm spending a lot of time planning out the best diorama I can. I've just about figured out which uh...figures I'm going to use so that's a big help.

Once it begins you'll see it here.

Hi Eelco. You can find the bottles here.

I purchased them from Accurate Armour. Many different styles are available.

Thanks for the congrats Jeff. I must admit it is fun to see one's own work in a magazine for a change. I also noticed that Bill Plunk and Keith Forsyth had their own excellent work in the same issue. Yes, the magazine was rather limited in space. The original article was longer but it just wouldn't fit. I could probably have written a short novel if I had wanted too. It got the main points across though.

One thing I forgot to mention in the article was that the credits for the photos should go to my friend David Enns. He took all of the final shots. They look pretty darn good in the mag.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys.

Matt,
I just found this entry and read the whole thing today. Beautiful work, you can almost hear the turbine whine of the Abrams, and see the flies around everyone. Again, beautiful work.

Wow. Thanks Wayne. I'm glad you enjoyed the ride. A long, long ride.

I'm surprised that this thread keeps popping up. Guess I need to give you guys something new to follow. All in due time.

Many thanks Jon. Funny how it keeps popping up. And I still plan on building another Abrams dio some time. Seriously! I just can't decide what kind of scene I want to build. I have all the components. Just not the right inspiration. Not yet anyway.

The base coat. Well to be honest that was a long time ago and it took a few attempts to find something that looked right. I never wrote down the original mix. But later on when I had to do some major touch up work on the turret I came up with a similar mix. Polly S hopper car beige was the primary colour. Mixed with this was Tamiya XF-59 desert yellow and XF-60 dark yellow along with some flat white.

For highlights I used the base colour mixed with Tamiya XF-2 flat white, XF-51 khaki drab, XF-55 deck tan and some X-8 lemon yellow. These were sprayed on the model in random splotches to help spice up an otherwise plain jane camo.

Paint these layers in thin coats. You are only trying to achieve a subtle variety in the colour. The main thing is to experiment and see what looks right to you. Hopefully this will be of some help.
