Good day all!
Wanted to try my hand at posting images, am currently working on a DML 253 Half-Track, for the C2 Campaign. Have applied the base color (German Grey) and some detail painting, getting ready to start the weathering process.
All comments / criticism are welcome! Thanks in advance!
Cheers!
Tim

When you click on a thumbnail in the gallery and a large image appears you will see two boxes of code; UBB and HTML and a photo ID number. You just click on the copy to clipboard button next to the UBB code and paste that into your post.
Looks like a nice clean build, for good photos try shooting outdoors in the shade and try not to use the flash.

Thanks for fixing my post pics...and the advice for the next time!
Computers and I just don't mix too well...had to give up trying to load the film in the digital camera! HA!
Appreciate the look and compliment on the build, very intimidating to post your work here, so many awesome models! Thanks again!
Cheers!

Hey Tim,
When did DML release a Sd.Kfz. 253 or is that a conversion kit?
The 2001 DML catalog shows that there was a 253 in the works but I never saw one released nor is it mentioned in their later catalogs.
My copy of the catalog also indicates that it would not be available in Japan, indicating a Gunze Sangyo tie in.

According to the side of the box, it was 2001 copyright, the kit is part of the 1:35 '39-'45 Series, kit # 6140. The box art shows one vehicle in a white-washed tiger stripe scheme, with a couple of Stug III's in the background, commander figure in the front open'd hatch.
I picked the kit up from a vendor at a show I attended, unsure of the exact timeframe but it was sometime in 2005.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Hey Tim.
That's odd, #6140 must have been a very limited release.
It's possible that the kit never made it up here to the "Great White North".
Never saw a catalog from DML for 2002 and there's no mention of the 253 since the 2001 catalog.
There is of course a Sd.Kfz. 252 Ammo Transporter that's been indicated to be in the loop since 2003, as are a number of other DML kits i.e. the "Erzatz M10/Panther Ausf. G".
I hope they re-release the 253, maybe using the "Premium" Sd.Kfz. 250 chassis and sprues.
Cheers

Very nice rendition of a pretty rare kit subject,Tim! I'm not that familiar with that varient and was wondering if you or anyone else could tell me why the odd looking topside hatch type/arrangement. Nothing logical comes to my mind for the way it is,but that may be just my mind's fault!
cheers again!

Rick,
The 253 was designed to be an armored artillery spotting vehicle, hence the solid top and hatch arrangement to support the scissors scope and protect the observer/spotting team inside from shell splinters.

AH! A hatch for the scissors scope! All clear now.
Thanks Bill!

LOL! Thanks for the kind words Rick , I truly appreciate it! Like Bill mentioned, they were used as artillery spotters, with the rear hatch having a scissors periscope coming up on the front edge of the open hatch. A periscope is included in the kit, but I've opted to keep it inside. I should have had it coming up through the hatch, as I'm going to open them all up, but it's too late now!
Thanks again! Hope to post some more progress pics in a few days.
Cheers!

This one looks good. Too bad you closed it up, though.
I have this little beauty myself and I left both hatches and the reardoor open. You can see quite a lot of the interior this way.
Did you encounter any misallignment between the hull parts too?
Mine didn't fit properly, especially the rearend showed quite some gaps between the rearplate and the sides and bottom.

Thanks for the comments, appreciate it. Should have explained it a little better, I just closed up all the hatches temporarily to paint the outside. I'm going to open them all up once the decals are on and I start the weathering. I just figured it was easier to put the hatches on instead on closing the interior with tape!
The hull parts were a bear. Like yours, had significant gaps, mainly in the rearplate area, used some plastic flat rod pieces to fill them along with a lot of putty. Along the armored top as well, it wasn't long enough so there were gaps at the front and back seams, although not as bad as the hull and rearplate. Even had to trim the radio set on the inside, so the top cover would fit. Heck of a time.
Now I'm fighting with the decals, as they are way too thick...so not sure what I'll do.
Thanks again! Cheers!
