This is what it looked like before:

After a lot of contructive advice from the guys here, I stripped the kit of most of its paint (and stripped some small parts off too) and repainted it. It looks like this now:

It's got a base coat of Tamiya Flat Black. Tamiya NATO Green went on next. Camo spots are Tamiya Brown and Tamiya NATO Black. A light dusting of pastels was applied to bring the colors together.

Special thanks to my buddy Dave aka SS-74 (may SARS never touch your silly hog hide) who sent me an Aztek 4709 as a Christmas gift. This Humvee is the testbed for the AB. I used the black acrylic nozzle to apply the base coat, the red medium(?) coverage nozzle to apply the NATO Green, and the tan fine line nozzle to apply the camo.

Special thanks to Proud Daddy Steve aka WeWillHold for encouraging me every step of the way. I won't dedicate this to you yet bud. The M88A1 will be coming along soon

Comments are very welcome. I'm still trying out this AB thing and I have a lot to learn yet.

Don't mention it. It's great to have you as a friend. It's really is a trade, with all the nice lass you gonna introduce me, I owe you this.

And good work, you did that Hummer proud.

Now I need something in Ambush pattern #:-)

Jeepster aka "Da Man" aka "Da AirBrush Dude"

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your first try at bat with an airbrush and you hit the homerun. The blending of colors is well done, tires/hubs very very nice. Clean work around the glass and lenses---this is good stuff.

You're starting to scare me Jeep. I've seen the prelim pics of the M88 up on her spade, and when you apply your airbrush skills to that one--you've got a winner. Jeeze another Modeler of the Month on the way.

Congrats on the new airbrush and compressor, and for the transforming the Hummer from something good to something great.

ps: The M103 is done (dedicated to you by the way). Pics on Rivet Review in a day or so. Thanks for your encouragement. Guys like you make this hobby the greatest.

pps: I kinda like Dave too, (although he should build more U.S. stuff (lol).

Thanks Bryan! This site is a great source of good advice! Only a fool will ignore the treasures in these hallowed forums

Thank you Fabio! I learned a lot from this one.

I just hope I don't screw up on the M88 Steve. I shudder at the though of soaking that beast in brake fluid especially with the little bits and pieces sticking out of it #:-) Hope I won't let you down bud.

And seriously: Dave needs to spray OD every now and then. Dunkelgelb is bad for the brain or so I hear

Jeep, did the brake fluid soaking dissolve the glue around those parts, or did it actually attack the parts and ruin them? I feel bad about this as this was my advice.

The parts I lost were so small that only a tiny amount of glue held it to the bodywork. I think I brushed most of them off when I cleaned the brake fluid from the kit. Brake fluid also makes the plastic a bit brittle especially if the kit is soaked in it for too long. Not much of a problem though. Don't worry about it pal. It worked fine for me and I recommend it to anyone who wants to strip off a bad coat of acrylic paint

Thank you Robert!

Yes, Dave. I'll do the Brummbar next #:-). Will try Robert's paint chipping method on it. What do you think will be a nice base color for it since I want to make it look like a big hunk of steel?

Thank you Marcel!

I used the kit doors from the Academy kit. I heard a lot of people say that the windows were too small. I compared the kit windows to some pictures in Rob's Motorpool to confirm and this is true. So I took out my knife and carved out the window and made it look close to the reference pictures. It makes the door and the Humvee look a lot better.

Looks great John! Superb job. One point to note: the wheels on NATO camo'd HMMWVs are black not green.

Long time no see pal, how have you been? What a good looking Humvee you have done with the new AB. I think you have a good command on the AB. Keep it up man.
