Remember that if you paint the tires with Acrylic based paints, they have a much better record for staying in one piece. I have a BTR-70 with rubber tires that are at least 15 years old, so it can be done. I think non-acrylic reacts with the wheels.
Beauty of a build, keep up the amazing work.

Jacques,
thanks for the reminder. Is it safe to prime the tires with primers such as gunze mr surfacer and then coat with acrylics?? I havent try this before.

I would imagine that any non-acrylic primer would cause many of the same problems in reacting with the rubber in the tire. All I have done in the past is to use flat black acrylic and drybrushing, or I just drybrush them with acrylic, or else I just weather them with pastels or pigments. I mean they are already rubber colored anyhow, unless you have the much harder and different Revell style wheels (I am not sure what Zvezda has as I do not have their kit directly...I will look over my BTR-80A to see what they are like in there.)
If they are the harder rubber/plastic wheels, then you should be able to do with them as you please using any paint/solvent. The above warning is only for the older pliable rubber wheels such as the ones that came in the DML boxed kits.
Confused yet?

it's been a while since i update this build... but last night i'm running out of paints for me Hetzer, and the spirit is very high at this moment, i decided to start back this long forgotten build...
well, since Feb 08 till now, the kit has breed...
It started to breed this resin wheels from SP Design.. like i told previously, the kit vinyls rubber eat the plastics....so i got no choice except to get the only resin wheels available
Unfortunately, the quality of the moulding were not as smooth as any resin stuff i ever dealt with... there are so many pin holes (air bubbles????) on the surface.... i dont know if MR Surfacer 500 will cure hide the pin holes..
Any suggestion guys??
here are the close-up of the surface
must be tough to hide.. so to all the expert here, give me some good advice please
the hole was not deep enough so i have to drill to make it deeper
Comparison of the hole. Left is after the drilling
Next to breed are two brass barrels from Modelpoint. The kit gun was so bad... and eduard even give the PE for the tapered muzzle brake, which required me to roll them... in which i failed to replicate... it's so small... dont blame me
with that in mind, the kit give birth to 14.2mm KVPT MG and 3 x 7.62mm PKT coaxial MG...
Comparison between kit MG and brass MG. The kit muzzle brake had been cut to install the eduard PE ...
Ok, on the the build.. i wetsanded the wheels after removing the stub... A word of caution, resin dust is harmful, so wear the right protection, in this case 3M N95 particulate mask.
Test fitting the wheels
that's for now...
thanks for looking

thanks seb..
here;s another small update
thanks guys for the kind words..
I gave the tyres a heavy coat of mr Surfacer 500. I thinned it with ratio 1:5 and shoot at 50 psi...........
after drying, here are how they look
close-up - this one is the worst of them all.
not only the tires, the wheels hub suffered a 20mm hole as well...
close-up some more on the next worst tyre. Many of them are like this..so many small bubbles present.. i hope GDP will fix them
that's for all... thanks for looking

Zaidi,
I have two sets of the Armored hubs.....though they were not nearly as bad as your set, they still had a few air holes. Your set looks really rough. Hopefully you'll be able to make them work...looking forward to seeing your fix.

A thought: why don't you try covering the pin holes with Gesso. It's an acrylic painting ground that artists use to prime canvas (or any painting surface) before starting a painting. It's white, readily available, and can be thinned and applied in several coats, or used as needed right out of the jar. it will go on smooth from a brush, and it can be sanded, and is not very expensive, as an artist will use a lot of it to create a painting surface. I have used it for a lot of fine art applications.

Ooh! Look at all the pretty wheels. Hope they keep them in resin or at least solid plastic. The rubber s t most new kits contain is a pain in the butt.

First off, Zaidi, you should have told me those wheels were so poor. While there are usually a few pinholes in Sergej's castings, nothing like those should be sold. My guess is that I missed looking them over before I mailed them to, so sorry about that.
Gaoyue, you horrible tease, what are those wheels from? They look a LOT better than anything on the market. They look thicker and have a more pronounced rounded edge...MUCH more prototypical. But is it for a new kit, or just a upgrade? A BTR-70 or BTR-80 (much more likely since Trumpeter did do a 1/72 BTR-80) would be WONDERFULL!

You don't say... Are Trumpeter planning modern armor blitzkrieg or what? If you look closer you can see marks on white styrene sheets hence it's probably full kit master.

Not to make excuses, but that may explain it. About 2 years ago Sergej got a bad batch of resin from a company here in the USA...they messed up the formula. The result was LOTS of air bubbles (and I mean a LOT) and even some part expansion, to the order of 5-8%. Sergej's T-64 conversions suffered from this.
But, since then, all has been MUCH better. I am mailing the new wheels off to you in the morning, show them off here once you get them.
But, I like the set Gaoyue showed off...I am getting really excited about what that may hold for the future...

Fear not, Zvezda is going to release T-90(A most likely), in this year or next. If they do Mercedes style, then we will have sound T-72 basis for practically every type out there.

George,
I would love to see Zvesda do a new tool T72/90. I just hope it wont be a repop of the older kit. I guess that would be hard with all the differences of the T90 compared to their old T72A/B kit. Heres hoping........
