Hello,
I'm planning a dio in 1/72 with a T-34/76 and a KV-2 set in the winter of '41. I have a set of Presier's tank riders but need to mod them into winter clothing/eqpt.
Does anyone have any pics or links to use as reference for this?
On a more basic note--I think my dio combination of a T-34/76 a KV-2 set in winter is historically ok-am I right?
Cheers

I read that the KV-2 pretty much disappeared after the summer of 1941, but undoubtedly there were still a few in service during the winter.

There were about 240 KV-2s built, all before the end of 1941. Most were expended in the frontier fighting in the summer of 1941, but a few survived. There are some photos of a few in winter whitewash, and a grand total of 8 made it as far as Kursk in 1943, although I have never seen a photo of that.

Hi Danny
This is a gallery of a model I stumbled across 18months or so ago that inspired me to get into modelling in the first place and I've always wanted to do a KV-2 in winter whitewash since. So thanks for the info.......

Hi David,
Those are fantastic pics. Am I right in thinking that the 3rd on line 4 is an officer?
Thanks-as ever!

This one?
http://www.rkka.ru/uniform/files/arm4.htm
His rank is the first word in the description and is 'Efreitor' - Corporal
The other two are a 'Red Army man' (private) and a sergeant (second in row).

That's a great image, as you say inspiring. Do you have a web address, I'd like to see more if I could.

Hi David,
Thanks for the info. That's really helpful...those are great images.
Hi Alan,
It's a great collection of dios. I was just wowed at how he made plastic look so convincingly like metal. I've since seen many similar examples of that kind of talent on these boards - but that was my first sight of what is possible in this medium.
Cheers

Imagine our joy if the soldier looking through the turret hatch had his (1/35) camera with him
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/rs_wells/Dioramas/Tank402_Maxi.JPG
BTW don't copy the locking bar on the hatch, it's a work of fiction - the hatch was bolted shut and opened to change the barrel, not for escape.

Oh ,that'll be shut I think!!!
The most I intend to have open is possible the driver's hatch. Whilst I am gradually drifting into the world of aftermatket parts I am still fighting shy of purchasing full interiors!

The interior of the door looks like this
No-one has yet found decent references for the interior of the KV-2 - FSM had an article ages ago, but that was a work of fiction.

...another good reason to leave it! Nice photo though.
Presumably everything from the turret down was the same as the KV-1 (?) But I can't imagine there was much room in the turret apart from the breech and some ammo bins....but I ain't scratching that in 1/72..
