One of the most enduring APCs and a favourite of modelers must be the M113. Now Academy are set to release a 1/35 scale model of the M113/A3 “OIF” in January 2008 so be warned - don’t max out your credit card over Christmas.

Looks like it could be interesting. They have the description wrong already though; "...anti RPG slatted cage that attaches to the side armor..." If it is what is pictured, those are storage baskets that were attached to 2 BDE, 3 ID M113s in OIF 1 (invasion) that were drawn from PrePo stocks in Kuwait, not the RPG cage that is seen on recent M113s in Iraq.

Well, I've been contemplating the older Academy kits and the latest Tamiya. Now, I just have to wait for the new release... Problems solved.

Nice to see a new bucket slated for release. I'll probably pick one up soon after it comes available. Having built one already from the Tamiya kit, I wouldn't mind seeing what refinements and enhancements the new kit offers in comparison.

According to the sprues drawings you can find on Academy's website the kit will include corrected parts for a "real" A3 (as opposed to Tamiya's OIF M113 kit) like a new rear ramp and door, a new troop compartment top hatch, and even spall liner panels for the interior (even if some are wrongly shaped )

The new parts do look pretty nice. Looks like it will be better than we thought. The sprues show a few weapons options too, like a Mk 19 and an M4 or two as well. I'll be getting a couple.
