Hi Buddy, just read your post and i asked the same thing a few weeks ago,Gino(heavyarty on the site) told me that there was nothing around in 1/35,apprently the T-90 is an updated version of the T-72.So htat makes two of us that await something in that scale.!!

T-80: Which version for which Country. There are 4 major variants in the T-80 (small Production run) T-80B, T-80U, and T-80UD. And many sub-variants.
T-90: There is really only one way to do a "real" T-90...Tamiya T-72 kit, PE for it from Eduard or the like, and Wheels, Front Glacis, and Turret from Miniarm. That will set you back about $180 retail. Search the net for maybe some better prices, but you will still end up paying ~$140.00 (Miniarm stuff just does not discount). On the other hand, you will have the parts for a GREAT T-90. Oh, and you need to decide if you want to make the m1992 version with the cast turret or the m2004 version with the slab-sided welded turret. And the Miniarm kits come with turned metal barrels, so you do save a bit there.

I'm no expert on this so this might be a stupid question...
What's wrong with the Revell T-80 UD kit (No. 3079)?
Gr,
Marcel
Revell's kit is a second hand Dragon mold from the late 1980's, which was designed just before reliable information on the T-80 became available, so pretty much everything is off in detail, proportion and shape. It was extemporized from parade photos and such. Skif's kit is no great shakes, but it's better than Dragon's.

Hey Andy!
Just check www.miniarm.com for the conversions.
You would need a Tamiya T-72 and Eduards Set no: 35434. (The smaller "Zoom" set would work too instead of the big one) For the conversions (all Miniarm):
B35032 new front, includes side armor as well.
B35034 new tracks (not a must on some vehicles)
B35005 new later style roadwheels (not a must on some vehicles)
B35031 or B35033 new turret (depends on which model you want, but the model 2004 is no.: 35033)
Hope this helps a bit.
Best regards,
Andy T.

Can anyone confirm if Miniarm 35034 New T-72/90 tracks are also T-80 tracks? I have heard a rumor that they are...
The Eduard Zoom kit is really a must, but the whole PE set really should be used for some of the other detail bits...I mean, if you are going to blow $150 or so on all this, that extra $10 or so should be considered money well spent for the few pieces you can pick up.
As stated, new road wheels are not necessary, but the Tamiya kit only comes with the older 8 spoke wheels so if you want to show off a really new T-90, especially the m2004, then you probably should get the 6 spoke wheels and the new T-80 style tracks.

Hey Jacques!
well, I´m not 100% sure but thought the new tracks are suitable for T-80´s. Well, we should check our references......... I think i will ask Igor from Miniarm as well. Maybe he can give us some clarification......
Best regards,
Andy T.

Andy,
I am in the process of acquiring all the T-90 parts now. Miniarm is the only way to go. The good news is that their stuff is top notch. Even if an injection kit comes out, I can't imagine the detail being better.
http://www.miniarm.com/miniarm/?miniarm=products
You will need:
T-90A Turret m2004 - B35033 or T-90 Turret m1992, T-90S - B35031
T-90 m1992, T-90S, T-90A, T-90"Bichma" Conversion - B35032
T-90A, T-90S,T-90"Bichma" workable tracks - B35034
T-72 Late Wheel Set - B35005
Tamiya T-72M1
A set of Eduard Photoetch for the T-72 would not hurt.
There are several photos of T-90s with T-72 tracks but these are apparently demonstrator vehicles. Of course if you are going to build one of these, you just saved yourself $35 if you are willing to use the Tamiya tracks. You could also cheat and use the Tamiya eight-spoke hubs but I have yet to see a photo of a T-90 that did not have the six-spokes.
If the good news is that this stuff is well done, the bad news is that I have had no luck in finding any substantial discount. I even had a Russian friend contact Miniarm directly. No luck. The best pricing I have found in the US at this time is at Mission Models.
https://www.missionmodels.com/home.php?cat=378
I have also seen some of the components on eBay but nothing currently. All with similar pricing. Anyway you slice it, if you are going to do a full-on T-90, it's a two-hundred buck kit. Hope you like T-90s a lot.
Cheers,
John
EDIT: Or you could just read Andy T.'s post above. Drrrr...

I have seen photos of the T-90 in service using both the 8 spoke wheels and the T-72 style track, but these are definately the m1992 version, not the m2004.
The Russians have a LOT of extra T-72 tracks, enough that they are retrofitting older T-55/62 upgrades with T-72 tracks/sprockets. So don't be surprised if they are using them up in wartime use as well. Plus it is probably easier to procure T-72 tracks than T-80 at this point in Chechnya...etc.
However, I will endeavor to find a proper photo of such said beast.

Jacques,
That would be good to see, not that I don't believe you. I could imagine seeing 8 spoke wheels too, even if it's just to keep me from having to buy them!
