Haven't been hearing good things about the LAV-III kit. People who have bought have been generally unimpressed with the quality and many of the parts are so badly warped they are unuseable. If it's not too late I'd cancel the order and wait for Miloslav over at Real Models to finish up his LAV-III conversion.

The AEF designs Canadian conversions have been out for at least a couple of weeks already.....some guys over on the Modern Canadian Vehicles site have already received their LAV III conversions....and there some excellent comments made about some of the parts......let the buyer beware.

I have no doubt that those will be better kits than AEF's offering. But I go overseas early in the new year. I want my LAV III model, (regardless of quality or rushed construction on my part) on the shelf before I go!

Trevor,
Have fun with your LAV III build and stay safe in the sand box when you head over.

Now if only Dragon would release a set of Gen2 modern Canadian soldiers. I know. Don't hold my breath.
I'm gonna wait for Miloslav to release his conversion for the LAVIII. I don't want to chance AEF even though it is tempting.

Extension of the mandate seems unlikely the public opinion polls aren't a sure bet either way though. There might be a full pull-out or more likely a change in the context of the mission to reconstruction efforts and maybe Air-support from the CF-18s for other ISAF troops in the south. Anyway I'm a political science minor so this kind of stuff is my particular fortay.

What's happening with the LAV TUA? I've only one of them with its wheels rolling- and that, regrettably, was during a funeral.
Are they going to be deployed? I'm holding off modeling a TUA until I see it in the field. A 1/35 LAV Engineer variant would be most welcome however

Andrew,
Political Science is your minor and that kind of stuff is your fortay?
Professional Armoured Soldiering was my major and training for war commanding a Leopard was my fortay.....What was my thesis?....Train hard to go into combat for as long as it takes and kill the enemy.
As I hope you well know Soldiers should not be concerned about mission extensions or public opinion poles when bullets start flying and all that matters is your buddy beside you. A mission re-focus to reconstruction tasks can't take place until the Taliban are no longer a threat to the soldiers doing the reconstruction or the civilians living in the area.....there is already lots of reconstruction going on by ISAF troops only for some of it to be blown up or burned by the Taliban within a short time period to intimidate or scare the civilians....and then for it to be rebuilt again by ISAF troops.....a change of mission will not solve this issue...killing Taliban will.
Trevor,
The LAV III TUA is alive and well. Echo Company, LdSH(RC) in Edmonton is a fully operational LAV III TUA Company. They have successfully completed the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Durability (RAMD) testing. There is no official word yet as to whether or not the LAV III TUA will deploy to Afghanistan....obviously there is no enemy armour threat.....but a TOW would be very effective on Taliban bunkers....but then again the Leopards are already doing that very well with 105 mm HESH and 120 mm HEAT rounds. We will have to wait and see if they deploy or stay in Edmonton.

But important, anyway...
To you gentlemen who are going overseas, or who have been overseas: Thank You.
You do so and have done so with this (civilian) Canadian's full support. I wish more of us shared this attitude. Your patriotism, your love for Canada, counts for a lot in my books. Again, thank you.

I think the vast majority of Canadians support the troops, irregardless of their views on the mission. As for the politics of it, well the uninformed many are ruled by the incompetent few. It's a shame politics are playing such a major role in current conflicts, I wish more nations would do what's right for Afghanistan rather than what the public opinon polls say.
Anyway enough of that malarkey! Good luck on the LAV-IIIs and get back here safe so you can build the one from Real Model.
