Hi all, happy new year! I have two dio's planned with my new Dragon arrivals - T34/85 with bedspring armour and T34/76 cast turret (1941)... here's my questions
1. I plan to use the T34/85 in a Berlin dio, C1945, with tank riders and some infantry alongside amongst the rubble - I want it be quite dramatic so plan for the area to be small but dominated by two three/four story buildings either side of a rubble-strewn road which the tank and troops are making careful progress over...
Does this sound feasible? One of the kit/decal options is for a unit in Berlin at that time. I plan to use DML's tank riders and Tamiya's Russian assault infantry (with resin heads if needed)
2. The second dio is larger - and is set on the steppes earlier in the war, with the cast turret T34 sat waiting with drivers, gunners and commanders stood alongside: I also wanted to include the big turret KV2, but wondered if these two tanks would realistcally be on the battlefield alongside each other? I have about ten figures to use/choose from (thanks to ICM and MiniArt) and a base about 30 x 40 cm...
Hope there's someone out there who's able to say yep, sounds good or no, would never happen - I'd hate to get it wrong!
And now I've found the cable that links my camera to the computer, I'll be able to post some pictures soon of these wips and the other T34/76 1943 dio which is in its closing stages...
Thanks in advance
Richard

I like the Berlin idea. For the cast turret T-34, it would look good with KV-II. They are from identical time. The Dragon's latest T-34 is an initial model so to speak. I would caution against too calm of a scene for these vehicles. I fo not think they sat around much in 1941. I always wanted to model a ramming T-34. They were so inexperienced and often had no ammo, that ramming enemy tanks and guns was a common practice. Many pics exist too. I always wanted to do that, but no time...

Thanks Dmitry, Berlin sounds better the more I think of it, and the tanks on the steppe - just reading Stalingrad (Beevor) and it doesn't sound like the Soviets ever got the use out them - they were destroyed whilst parked... And as for ramming - there were also reports of Air Army pilots ramming their planes into the ME109s when they'd run out of ammo - desperate times...
Will keep reading and make my mind up about the second dio later. But one tank ramming another sounds like an amazing dio if one could pull it off, crashed vehicles/planes are hard to model convincingly...
