Count me in. This should put one botched up Ferdinand into good use. Hope there can be 1/35 plans for reference. Thanks

Hi William,

Offcourse a good idea, although strickly building Ramm Tigers can make it very hard to find enough participants.
At the moment there is a WW2 Experimental campaign going on. Why not join that campaign with the Ramm Tigers?

The idea is that the Rammtiger campaign would be a "mini-campaign" which would only build one vehicle, so we only need about five people, but if more want to participate, that's good too.

For those contemplating building a RamTiger, there are several "subjects" out there in Google-land. Google "Ramtiger" or "Rammtiger" or even "Raumpanzer Tiger (P)" and you'll get a variety.

I particularly like this build here as he's added some support to the underside front (which makes great sense!).

For conversions, it appears that Cromwell Models makes/made one in resin for a 1/35th donor, but I can't seem to locate one anywhere. Airmodel still seems to have one in Vacu-Form here for about 9 Euro ($13.29 or 6.72 GBP).

For scratch building the ram part in 1/35th, you'll need one sheet each of 3.00mm (0.120"), 1.50mm (0.060"), and 1.00mm (0.040") styrene.

It looks like the majority of the builds were based on the Italeri Elefant (based on when the original conversion was made?), but I'm inclinded to think any Elefant or Tiger VI (P) will work. I'll more than likely end up using my Dragon (#6210) Tiger VI (P)......

Hope this helps some.

I am giving it some serious thought. I would like to expand my skills. I need a donor kit. a few sheets of plastic sheet, an aceteline torch, and a few weeks of uninterupted time...

I am on the fence about this one. I will watch this thread, and think about this one for a while.

We only need about three more people to sign-up to make this thing happen, so if you're interested, join in, and you can e-mail me for the 1/35 scale plans

Guys and Gals,

This build has a lot of niffty things for any builder: there's the (donor) kit, some scratch, a wee bit of detail, and building something very different. Not to mention being part of Armorama's very first, official, "Mini-Campaign." Yea, it's a shameless plug, but!! Very well could be the first of many!

Anyhow, pretty much any Elefant or Tiger (P) kit will work for the donor...just think, NO PE needed, NO AM barrel needed...at most maybe a set of Model Kasten or Friul's. A mere three sheets of sheet styrene...no biggie! A wee bit of wire for some grab handles and maybe, maybe some odds and ends. The vehicle is about the "cleanest" one I've ever seen...there ain't nothin' needed for tools or other stuff to be added....quick, clean, kool. A wonderful opportunity to throw your lot into some "scratch." Heck, aside from being a wicked looking vehicle, that's why I'm "in." Scratch time.

C'mon! Let's make it happen.

ok I am willing to give this a try i have an old Italeri Elephant knocking about looking very sad for itself plus enough Dragon tiger pieces in the spares box. but as this is a fictional vehicle what exactly are the ground rules are we supposed to mimic the picture exactly or do we have some poetic license?.

Darren,

I'm inclinded to think that the build should be "close/similar" to the vehicle that's been portrayed in the various links...once done, there should be no question that it's a RammTiger. "Poetic license??" Heck yea...a turret on top sporting a 10.5cm barrel? Heck no. The "concept" behind the vehicle was one to ram buildings and whatnot. I'm thinking that any "things" protruding from the vehicle would quickly be damaged/torn off. With that in mind, I was going to add some "grab handles," but nothing in the front, on the top, or on the sides...they'd quickly be "gone" after the first hit.

However, I am now quite curious as to what you're thinking! Care to share your thoughts?

And, welcome aboard!!

Well to start with I’m looking at the great big hole in the front of the vehicle which just would not work as the first building you rammed would fill the area with bricks and all manner of building rubble, so I was looking at using poetic license to overcome what I think of as an obvious flaw.

Plus there are a few other areas of the vehicle that I feel would be altered before it had ever got into production, no I’m not looking at mounting a turret but I can think of ways to mount lights at the front and a commanders cupola on top. I am thinking more along the lines of an Elephant chassis built into this vehicle rather than an Elephant body with a shell bolted onto it.

It will mimic the vehicle shown here in form and function but will include some alterations which I feel would have been made if it had ever been tested or put into production. After all we are dealing with a mythical beast or at least that is the opinion I have formed from the information I have read. If I am wrong in that conclusion please put me straight.

You know what, I'm in too!!!
I was planning to build one long time ago and still did not come to it. Perhaps this will give me the drive to start.

BTW, dont let anyone fool you with this picture; it turned out to be a fake (see this thread).

Second!

For those wondering where to sign up; it can be done on the Breakthrough RammTiger mini-campaign page.

I've ordered plastic sheets and a Italeri donorkit. I'm planning a 1:72 version using the drawings William (Dubdubs) provided (thanks again!!!). I have to convert the drawings to the right scale, but that is not such a problem I guess.

Now the hardest part....waiting for May 8th. to start....

Darren,

A lot to do with the current Campaign schedule and to allow ample time for the participants to gather the necessary "goodies." One will need at the minimum the "donor" kit and either one of the AM RammTiger conversions or the plastic card. Not to mention, if going the "scratch" route, time for us to get the plans off to everyone that needs them.

With that said, I have the donor kit and the plans...just need to get the plastic card/stock and maybe a set of Friuls.

Mike

EDIT: I'm curious about the "contest" element too! What up???

Tat,

If you have a hard time finding the plastic sheet, let me know. My LHS has it and I'd have no problems sending you some.

Is there anyone else wishing to take part in this mini campaign as it seems an ideal entry into scratch building.
