This is the old (very old!! 36 years!!!) Tamiya kit pimped with Tank Workshop frontwheels, Modelkasten tracks and Roadwheels, Friuls sprockets, and a PE set from Eduard.
This is the result so far. Firstly what I did was shorten the bars for the sprockets, return rollers, and roadwheels.
Ah, well, I hope the pictures say enough.
Thanks for looking!
Just a comparisment:
What do you think?

Looking good so far!
My Tamiya Sd.Kfz.7 kit arrived today (bought to accompany a Dragon FlaK 36) and I've just started looking around for aftermarket parts to try and match the detail in the Dragon kit. Can you please share the details of the parts you have (preferably with part numbers)? It would be very useful!
I'll keep a close eye on this thread.
All the best,
Ian

Progressing very nicely Hilbert. I really like the dash, gauges turned out great. I like seeing stuff like the open window on the windscreen, it adds character to the model. These are still a hot item on Ebay when they show up and always seem to go for a decent buck.
Looking forward to seeing more photos

Just an observation, not being critical here, but it appears as if you need to get some slack in your treads and let them lay on the road wheels as in the photo. I realize that you arent done so maybe it will have slack when you are. I bought the modelkasten tracks also and was wondering if there are more links to use or if that is what they look like after assembly?

Thanks for the critical feedback!
Your absolutly right, but yes I managed it. I got a tip from an other guy that I should lengthen the tracks with 1 piece. Th is is to long and the track will get a un-natural feel. So the simpliest solution is to glue the tracks down the roadwheels.
48 links is just to long. So I used 47 and with the right care it is reall easy to solve.
Thanks for the comment again!

I think halftracks would make the ultimate party vehicles. Imagine driving your friends around town in that-lol. Just hide the booze when the police drive by.............

Hi Hilbert,
Great progress again. Just one small thing. Maybe I missed it but the tracks still don't have a lot of sag...You're still going to to this?
Other than that again a great job and an really interesting project.

That is right Martin, I will do the tracks at the end when everything is painted etc. For now it is to difficult to glue them on the wheels because I can;t paint them anymore. Now I can take them off and paint them.

And, it has paint!!
Stupid me was forgotten to do a tiny drop of clear in the paint.. so it is really matt now. Maby I will take my AB again just for that satin look.
Hope you like it!

Hilbert-- really nice job. How did you get the driver's window to stay open? Is that a PE add on or did you make a frame and window?
thanks

Hello,
It is made from the PE set. It was a bit of work to get it right. But it give so much more then when the window would be closed.

*uch uch uch uch*
Just bump this old topic...
Well, maby you know that I was building the great old Sd.Kfz 7 from Tamiya. I will add this little beauty behind it. It is the dragon Flak 37 pimped with some small (8 large frets) PE from Voyager. I can recommend this brand because it is just a pleasure to work with.
Well, enough about the PE... let's go to the flak!
Please let me know if you have comments, critism, or something else I should know.
Thanks for looking!

Fantastic work Hilbert! However inspiring though the Sdkfz 7 is, I think I'll pass & wait for the Trumpeter one (cries of "wimp!" from the back)! Love the Flak 37 too, but how in hell are you going to paint it with those gorgeous sights on?

Really enjoy watching this progress along, Hilbert. You have a great touch for the finish work, the prep for it.
Did you have any problems finding the ModelKasten and Fruil parts? I just don't remember seeing promos or such for them. Did I miss this?
Cheers!
