Greetinga all,
Below ae some pics of the builds I've been working on for my Nan Red Project. Included are pics of the LCM 3, LCA and 2 Deep Wading Universal carriers and various troops/stores to stock the boats. I think these are about done and would appreciate any comments or thoughts. The project has a long, long way to go yet but these are one more step in the direction I want to go.
First Up is the RN LCA and Disembarking Troops
Next the RN LCM 3, This is a slightly added to Italeri kit. Only item not included is the anchor as I am waiting on a smaller version than the original one I used.
Next up are 2 Deep Wading Universal carriers Mk II, one for the LCM 3 and one for the Beach.
87 Was built with the older Resicast Conversion set and those who followed the build will know that I made an error on the rear panel which I am please to say Inwas able to fix without wrecking the whole build. It representa a vehicle from the Headquarterd and Defence Platoon, 8th Canadian Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Infantry Division.
The second Carrier was built using the New Resicast set and my thank to Graham for that and to Rick aka the Bear for the correct Divisional signs that made the build possible. It represents a vehicle from The North Shore (New Brusnwick) Regiment, 8th Canadian Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Infantry Diivision.
Thanks
Al

Gday Al
Do you have any photos of your builds?
Seriously, this is fantastic stuff mate. The variety you have on display is great...
Remind me that I have a couple of pics of what I believe is Nan Red (I think I recognise that building) showing some stuff landing on shore...

Hi Brad,
Thanks mate. I have some very good references for the landing area, but I'd be interested in any pics you have in case I haven't got them already
I finally raised the small flag pole on this one this morning so I'm considering it done
Cheers

Hi Ed,
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated
The 2 boats above are from the first 3 I built, the LCVP is still lacking a load but here's a link to the original build showing the Italeri LCM 3, LCVP and the FM LCA, all build as RN craft
https://archive.kitmaker.net//features/952
I upgrade the LCM 3 with some British parts left over from the build below.
The second 3 are for a different project, 2 Trumpter LCM 3's (1 RN, 1 USN) and an USN LCPR, here' the link for them:

Cheers
Al

Alan,
That is some of the best modelling I have ever seen, just awesome. I might as well take up knitting or something now.
All the best
Andy

Hi Andy,
Many thanks for your kind comments, much appreciated. I only got back into modelling about two and half years ago so I'm constantly on a learning curve. One reason my projects take so long is I often go back to fix or try and improve stuff as I learn new skills.
Don't be afraid to experiment, if something doesn't work first time go back and experiment, I recon it will be another 2 to 3 years before I have learnt enough to complete this.
Again thanks for your feedback.
Re the knitting, I often feel like that too!!

Hi Tim, Dave and Jon,
Many thanks for the feedback guys, I am glad to see some folks making the effort to post, and you comments are much appreciated.
Jon, strangely enough I have a small box of seagulls, kindly donated by Derek Barton and some strange looking wingless birds I've had a go at myself . Some fun for the summer no doubt.
Cheers

Alan,
Great builds. The finished project will be something to see I'm sure!
It may be a bit late to consider this but I've been thinking about your RN personnel.
It's been my thinking for a while that the blue uniforms with the flappy collars wouldn't have been as prevalent as you depict. The various books I've read (fiction and non-fiction) give the impression that "anything goes" when out at sea and battledress blouses were very common, as were thick sweaters duffel coats and oilskins. The blue uniforms would be more for entering and leaving harbour when the "dress of the day" would have been neccessary.
One other thing, I think the big crate on the LCM looks fine but... how are they going to land the thing over the beach without some sort of lifting gear?
I do apologise if this seems a litle critical.
Tom

Wow Alan, all this and the other models you've shown here on Armorama in only two and a half years, you put the rest of us to shame.
Well done mate.

Hi Tom,
No worries comments welcome. Their are only two crewman still wearing Navy Blues, both from the original figures I attempted to build. It's possible the chap on the rear of the LCA may get replaced and the other fellow coming out of the engine room could fairly easily be given a jumper, something I've thought about but not got around to doing. Most of them should really be wearing tin pots but I liked the caps for a bit of colour and variety.
The problem with the sailors is the lack of action and the lack of figures. My alterations were just passable from a distance but I'm keeping an eye out for some that might appear to be more active.
Long way to go yet, so who knows what may change lol, lol. The crate was really to help lift the top of the LCM 3 as without guns, as the British Boats were, it's was a bit empty. Unloading is done with an axe, just breaking the creat open and away you go lol, lol I suppose it depends on what's in it, but it's fair comment and something I had considered before.....
Pat, glad you enjoyed the pics, there are a lot of figures in these, again something that took a long time to get half right, made all the harder by the limited choice and my weak figure skills. Still I think they work reasonably well tgether, but the odd change may occur when I look at them again in a few months time.
Cheers guys, comments much appreciated. 2 down and 1 to go lol, lol
