Hi Keith
I think that's representing Red Oxide primer shown because the side skirts are off not rust as such.

Nice build, Tony.
And I really like the guys in the chemical suits - great idea, and very sinister-looking.

Looks great so far. I have never seen a wwii guy in a chem suit. But there is so much for me to learn when it comes to armor. Looking forward to see more progress.

Sorry but there is very little factual about the Second World War to this model, excellent though it is, it's based on some progress made on a prototype the Germans started to build, and thats only the hull.
The turret is a complete fiction, created originally by another talented modeller whom I understand has come to an agreement with Trumpeter about its use.
It's what is commonly described as a "Paper Panzer" something that was thought of, maybe sketched, even plans drawn up (hence the nickname) but never saw reality.
So please don't think this is anything other than a very well made model, including the figures of a "what might have been" scenario. Well executed fiction.

Hi Keith
I think we should leave Tony to say what he is trying to depict here but if you look at the gun barrel the end section closest to the turret has also been painted the same colour, as I said to depict red oxide primer.
I think the difference is Tony has weathered the hull sides to show wear and tear, staining from dirt and rain etc.
Look forward to the next build update.
Alan

Woudn't the barrel be in the same state as the sides?
