The subject says all What other alternatives are out there? I curse the day everybody started building these resin T-90s- now I absolutely have to have one, too.
Is the DML kit worth tinkering with, anyway? I figure since the conversion replaces a great deal, it might be unnecessary to get a Tamiya kit. (I would be reluctant to "sacrifice" the Tamiya T-72 had I lay my hands on one, anyway.)
Thanks.

Would the AEF T-90 kit fit the DML T-72?

There will be a great deal of wasted money if you are going to build T-90 with AEF stuff and DML T-72B as a base. DML kit loses to Tamiya and it's Chinese replicas in every aspect and AEF pieces, well, are hard to describe by using decent words. I know it's horrifying to look at grand total when buying all necessary bits from Miniarm, but you will end up spend just as much if not more trying to refine detail on DML kit and AEF upgrade.

That means I have to get 2 Tamiya kits, right? (One as a T-72, the other as a T90...)
What can I do with the DML one, then? If a few rivets are not in place I'm not very worried, but the tank just looks wrong... I hoped covering it with resin would solve the problem.
DML better start turning out 3-in-1 Russian armor. That's all I can say.

I agree with George, The Tamiya T-72 is THE kit, even if it has some detail problems, is themost accurate, the Dragon/Revell/Zvezda T-72 have some dimmensional issues (such as being about 5 mm shorter, I mean the hull) and the tracks a little wide, even the AEF Designs conversion set is a little unnacurate... Better if you can purchase a Tamiya kit and the Miniarm T-90 sets, they're expensive, but worth the money... Most regards.

DML kit has numerous serious flaws in fine detail and geometry. Hull is visibly wider than it should be, fuel cells and stowage boxes are out of shape, engine deck is over sized, and road wheels have incorrect thickness at rubber band and over sized dents to name the few.

Hy Andras!
If you want a T-90 that nobody has, wait a few months. A bird told me that a new company is working on a "special" T-90 with NAKIDKA protection. It should be out in the first quarter of 2009, as a full kit and cheaper than buying a T-72 from Tamiya + all the MINIARM stuff.
Thats all I´m allowed to say for now
But I will keep you posted
Best regards,
Andreas

Arghhh! Guess who just sprung for all of the Miniarm conversion sets? Oh well, I wanted to make a couple but couldn't justify buying multiple conversion sets for multiple T-90's, so it'll still be nice.

Andreas, you are truly evil when you just let a small bit of information out like that.
Now, maybe I will get attacked for this, but the BEST use of the DML/Zvezda/Italeri/RoG T-72 kits if SP Designs TOS-1 conversion. I KNOW it is still wrong in dimension, but that particular conversion seems to draw the eye away from those issues...maybe it is because the distracting turret is removed and a VERY overpowering turret is added? But I stress this is probably the BEST you can do with those T-72 kits. Otherwise Tamiya is the way to go.
For a T-90, wait for the new kit or spring for the Tamiya/miniarm setup. Nothing else is worth your trouble, it will only bring you tears. I know, it is not fair.

How do they plan to build master model for T-84 if no reliable drawings are out? All those modern conversions are very welcome but let's not forget about things like turrets for European produced T-72M, M1 or earlier models of soviet T-64/72.

I would agree not to let too many cats out of too many bags just yet...it will lead to people hounding for a product that is not ready to be released, or disappointment if it takes too long. Take some of SP Designs pregress to heart on this, it is better to keep some things to your chest for a while.
I admire your ambitions though. Best of luck and report when there is progress to a product!
