Would it be realistic to show a T-55A tank involved in this invasion, or did the invading armies only use their old clunker T-54's and such?

You'll be fine with the T-55, they were there. As an "oh, by the way...", you could also use one for Hungary '56 as well. No doubt other folks more familiar than I could let you know which units used them.
