You don't really have too many choices with this machine. SU-122 didn't last for long in production: '42- '43.
Do a little research. 1) Compains during this period and little after. 2) Tank regiments participating in those compains. 3) If they had slef-propelled guns units. 4) Did those units have SU-122
Eventually you will narrow your choices and will decide to go with a different vehicle

I want to tell you that the Tamiya 1/48 SU-122 builds into a nice little kit, just add some PE for more detail.I can't vouch for the 1/35 but I certainly enjoyed the 1/48.

Can the hatches be opened on that kit?

Yes, driver & commander hatches open. A good kit to have.

I think I'm gonna get one, too.
I like the option of crewing the vehicles.
(now if I could just find a good source of crew figures......)

Track48.com has the best range of figures available and just 'figure' shipping to be around $15 so you'll probably want to just do 1 big order for future builds as well. Dartmoor, Art of War, and ICM are the same size figures. Greatmodels.com is in the USA and they have Gasoline and Tamiya figures which are similar smaller size. I'll post a pic for you after work today.

So, here's the problem. The Small Tamiya and Gasoline have nice Infantry figures but not much for Tankers. Good size & detail ICM, Dartmoor, and Art of War have great Tankers but no infantry,
Kinda makes a diorama challenging
PS. the ICM (yellow) figures you can get with a plane or a jeep.

Yeah, I know they're out there, but I don't want to pay $20 for 3 or 4 figs, ya know. I wish Tamiya would come out with sets of just tank crew, instead of sticking a couple in their infantry sets.

Hi, yep, it's the gasoline conversion for Tamiya, but I also added Hobby Boss later-style wheels common to the KV-1S hull. It's a fairly straight forward build but has been said the gun barrel is too small and I find assembling the rails a challenge. Nothing a little patience and experimentation can't fix. If Gasoline comes out with a better barrel, then I'd give this conversion an A+.
............................... Back to the SU-122, I saw this book in the review section here that has a cool SU-122 next to a Tiger. I ordered the book and already figure that will be the future use of my SU-122 for a diorama. Here's the link:
