Hey Mark! Don't leave us hanging here, what's the plan? Are you going to be using the road wheels in this build?

Ah, so it's a shadow box you're after! Very cleaver!

BTW, you will need another one of those floor mounted ammunition boxes and if you have questions about the fighting compartment layout let me know. I have some pretty good references.

Say, if you're not going to use the wheels would you be interested in selling them to some poor sod in the States?

i'm using half the wheels for the back end... not sure yet..

but i have a few ideas

........

why do you need wheels? there will be some spare

4 wheels 2 front idlers? some track..... convince me you need them and they are yours for the postage costs

Well, in my case I have a project in mind involving the "Model '43" that will require some major reworking of the hull and a pretty much scratch built turret.
At issue is the fact that I won't be using the all steel wheels in the '43 (which are pretty bad in any case) and need ether the pressed wheels from the '42 kit or I'll have to make copies of the cast "half spider" ones that come with it.
Even if I end up using the pressed wheels they'll need some tweaking (like removing the reinforcing ring at the center).
In any event, the start of this project is still far into the future.

Now if all fairness, because I didn't offer to buy your spares first I think that Jeff should get the first crack if indeed you are still willing to part with them.

I am converting 2 of these to radio control, but one will be an SU-85 and the other the 1942 T34/76 ... so both will need the solid early rubber rimmed wheels. So only gaining just 4 road wheels won't help much. Plus I am in no hurry so I'll probably just buy another kit and rob those wheels.

I also have the 1943 T34/76 but it has the mixed wheels w/steel and not the solid early version, so it wil be built as a static model.

I'll pass on the wheels so thanks. It was worth asking though! Good luck on your project and please post pictures when you can!

Actually, you're not in as bad a shape in terms of turret detail as you might think. The fittings in the Model '42 small turret (which you have) and the earlier Gayka (Hex turrets) are very similar with the exception of the side vision devices, MG drum magazine storage, and the way the F-34 gun is mounted.
The important thing is to ferret out which details are appropriate to they year vehicle you're working on.

Email me directly and I can share some of the photos I have taken of the tank at APG and a few scans that may help with the turret.

Yes, indeed you do!
I've been inside two -76's, buddy you have to admire the guys who fought in them! There is NO room to move. None.
The commander was OK, he only needed to sit in his seat with his feet on the foot controls, watch the battlefield through his PT-4-7 and the side vision block, aim and fire the gun. (I am amazed it anyone was able to pull it off and it probably accounts for the huge number of tanks lost.)
The loader's job was nearly impossible! He had to pull rounds off the ready racks or, far more problematic, out of the floor storage boxes, lift them above the main gun, and load them into the breach. How he was able to do this is almost beyond imagination. Again, there was nearly no room to move.
I know the Soviets picked short men for the tank corp but the only way for things to have worked is if these guys were downright diminutive!

hi mark.....

i thought the loader was comander?
i know that these models with only 2 men in the turret were getting shot to pieces.....

anyway i have just fitted the skinny wire dude into the drivers position and its really tight.... i'm gonna do the loader actually stood on the ammo boxes... i cant imagine he could do the job sat on that seat

so a quick question... did the seat have a spring at the hinge point on the turret ring? or would he have to clip it up?

No, no. The commander was also the gunner.
And you're right, there is absolutely no way the loader can do his job while seated.

In as far as the seats go; on earlier versions of the T-34 it appears that the seat was hinged near the top where the bracket was welded to the turret ring.
It looks to me as though the seat could be rotated up with the seat bottom ending up over the top of the seat back. (Tough to describe but if you email me I can send along a few images that should make it clearer.)

Some later tanks with the Gayka turret had seats that were hinged at the bottom and spring loaded so that the seat bottom would sit against the support tube when no one was sitting, or standing, on them.

The man looks like he needs to be heard!
First, what are you using to sculpt your crewmen and second, have you made any progress since last your posted?
I'm keen to see where you're going with this.

Not sure about your helmets... The front pad is too narrow, but too high for sure.
Maybe this will help
