This is the first completed model I have posted. After many months of reading the forums and tips, I have completed both a vehicle and figures. These aren't the first models I have done (many in my early teens) but these are the first figures I have tried to paint with more than solid colors. Also using tips for weathering the vehicle was a first.
I really have to give credit to all of the members I have taken advice and tips from by reading the forums. I don't post often but I wanted to share these with you as being the first completed models using the info I have found here.
Any and all comments are welcome.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Really good start, nice work. I think you've done an excellent job on these two. Don't know much about the German's, but the helmet on the standing figure looks a bit too brown, but I could be wrong on that.
Look forward to your next one.
Al

Very nicely done Kevin! Is this 1/35th?
The only thing I would suggest is a dark wash on the riders eyes. They look a bit wide and white. It's a superb job on something so small.

Good job!! As mentioned before, my first attempt at painting figures was not even close to yours !! How did you make the slings for the machine pistols?

Muddyfields:
I have completed (98%) of an Opel Maultier but I painted it in DAK before doing research and finding they never had the Maultier in North Afrika. I didn't post it for fear of ridicule. It also had a flak mounted in the back.
Al:
To brown is right. I didn't want to repaint so I figured he droped it in the mud and didn't wash it. I was using MM Dark Yellow but have now switched to Tamiya FX-59 Desert Yellow.
Murdo:
Yes it is 1/35. The cycle and rider are Tamiya Orderly set and the standing is from the Afrika Corps Italeri figure set.
I have started a bigger model, the Opel Blitz and am converting it to a workshop vehicle. It is my first try at scratchbuilding and the use of PE. I will post pics later.
I also have a Kubelwagon in the works (started after the Blitz) but am more interested in the Blitz (started back in Sept last year).
Thanks again,
Kevin

They were a PE set from one of the aftermarket companies. I will check which one when I get home. I belive I ordered them from Squadron. You get a few for different guns and some for the uniforms. It really makes it easier and they stay in the form you put them in being made of brass.

1st of all I love your original call sign !!!! But you did a great job on weathering both the figures and the bike, good chipping and wear.maybe a little more dust or mud on the bike, maybe some rust on the exhaust, just my opinion, still looks good the way you have it though.

Kevin, a great start on figure building. It took me a lot more tries doing figures, and I still am not close to what you have done your first try.
I was sorry to read the quoted part of your post. It may be that someone would have pointed out the Maultier wasn't in N.Africa, but you will find the vast majority of people on Armorama just enjoy seeing a good model. Most will praise the things you have done well, some will give advice on how to do some other things better. I have been on Armorama for many years now, and I do not believe I have ever read anyone ridiculing anothers model. Please don't let this fear stop you from posting pictures of your work. We are all modelers, and we like to look at pictures of them. From the work you did on your figures, I think your models would be great, especially the weathering. The chipping you did on the bike looks very good.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work here.
Cheers,
Mike

I agree with Mike ,Kevin.....do not fear posting on this site,as the vast majority of us simply enjoy sharing each others work, and providing CONSTRUCTIVE critique.(someone helpfully pointed out to me I had put a track on backwards on one of my projects ...oops)I think your off to a VERY good start and using this site not only as a reference but also as a sounding board will really propell your work quickly ,,,believe me!

Thanks for all the support. I will post some of the Maultier when I can find the pictures or take some new ones.
I have a few of the Blitz workshop. I started by scratching the rear bed. This was started last Sept but I have recently got it back on the bench. When I get a chance I will take more pictures of the progress.
Enjoy.
Kevin

Ok... here are a few of the Maultier.
These are not the best photos. I will take some better ones as soon as I can.
Enjoy.
Kevin
P.S. I think after the Blitz workshop I will order some after market tracks and finish it. I also have the flak for mounting in the bed.

Very nice projects, Kevin. I like the heavily weathered and worn approach you are using on both the motorcycle and the maultier.
The jacket of the motorcycle rider is actually a camouflage smock so should probably have one of the many WH or SS camouflages on it, but that is a smaller detail.
Now I will check out your tread on the Opel workshop
Thanks for sharing

Hi Kevin
I really like your idea of this workshop vehicle.
Francois Verlinden produced an inspiring diorama of a Blitz converted to a field kitchen. Great idea and excellent work. Keep going!
Regards
Garth

Kevin, I'm really impressed.
Irrespective of any accuracy issues, the job you've done on the Maultier is very nice technique-wise. You're clearly not content to stay in your comfort zone, and it seems like you enjoy a challenge (as in the scratch-building).
You've made a great start and are sure to get even better.

All,
Thanks for all of the kind words. Having been tied up on a major project at work has kept me away from my bench for too long, so last week I took the almost finished Opel Blitz workshop off of the shelf and am working as much as I can on finishing it. I will post updates to the thread later this week.
You can find the Opel Blitz Workshop thread here http://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/122805&page=1.

Hello Kevin, nice 1st model, very neatly done, I liked the paint chipping on the motorcycle. One thing though, don't use so much white when painting the eyes, it can give your figures a "deer in the headlights" appearance. Al
