Please have a look at my M4 HT Mortar carrier. I was going to build this OOB, but during construction of the chassis, I decided to convert this to an M4A1 with the mortar facing forward. I started by filling the seat back inserts in the fuel tanks with Squadron Green, clearing off some surface detail that wouldn't be needed and filling and sanding.
Next, I began by taking the existing mortar tube boxes and cutting them down to size. Pics that I've found show the boxes were 4x4, while the kits were 4x5. I cut off 1 row, adding sheet plastic to cover the open side. Then I built the raised mortar base, but I believe I made it slightly too large and I'll have to rebuild it. I also built a modified skate rail that the mortar bipod legs will mount to.
That's it for now. I'm currently working on the rear plate and storage boxes.
All comments are most welcome. My thanks to Steve Zaloga and Ken Abrams for pointing me in the right direction for reference pictures.
Steve

Great start Steve, nicely done. Will be tracking your updates on this, one in the stash that's upcoming...but will more than likely stick to 'OOB'. Thanks for sharing your photos!

Dave and Tim,
Thanks for the comments. I hit amajor bump due to my own "blindness".
I'm planning on using Archer markings for 3-15 vehicle of the 2AD. I had finished the chassis and began the hull conversions when I realized that I had the unditching roller built, rather than the winch assy. So I had to stop the conversion work and remove the roller, build the winch assy and intall that.
I'm off on a short vacation so it'lll be about a week before there are further updates. Thanks for looking.
