Seems like this photo could serve as good inspiration for a nice diorama – but does anyone have any idea how this tank might have ended up in this position?

I’ve seen other pictures of KOed tanks in half-buried / strange positions and wondered how it happened.

Can anyone offer any insight?

Thanks,
Noah

I would say it would be easy actually. The tank in the front is missing the track and was nose down over a berm, or maybe part of a trench, and the second tank drove under from the rear. As we can't see the other side, maybe there was a bomb impact that we can't see.

I once saw one of those cab forward Dodge cars with the front wheels on the rear of one of those hump backed Chevy's, and neither car had so much as a visibly damaged front or rear light. Strange things happen at times.

The deck of the bottom tank is about level with the ground, so it looks like it has fallen into the trench the two soldiers are in and the other tank lost control and drove over it.

Also, it could be a result of a heavy explosion, hence the missing tracks. If you've ever seen pictures of the tanks that got bombed in the Falaise pocket they where thrown around like toys.

"Realising the new german anti tank guns could penetrate the front sloping armour of their tanks some Russian crews took the adding of additional frontal protection to extremes"
