Hi Guys!
I would like to keep you updated on the painting stage in this build log. I should have made this topic earlier because of the construction stage. O well...
I want to paint the MAZ similar like this one:
I really like the faded colour on it so Imixed Tamiya Light Green X-15 with Yellow Green XF-4 (70/30) for the base colour. I still need to airbrush the tractor chassis and I want to add some more colour variation on the green painted parts.
It looks very "greenish" on the photos, which it is in real,.... But it is a very vivid colour to act as a base for different washes which will tone down the harsness a bit, at least,..I hope so

Jurjen,
I followed your build carefully, I have a MAZ waiting in my stash, but I have to finish my Faun Transporter before ...
I like that green colour, it's a nice idea. Sometime ago I used a similar process washing a JS-2, I tried several green washes (Flat, oLive, Dark and Black greens) that aged the base colour.
Looking forward to see your build. What tank are you planing on having on the MAZ ?

Hi Guys!
Well, I plan to add the Strela as cargo but it will take some time before I finish that one,...
I spend this afternoon on some basic interior painting and painting the drivers panel. It helps to start on something simple and the advantage is that you get the 'feel' for the colours you need to use.
I will keep you updated.
Cheers!

Oh this will be most interesting to watch. I really like your choice of base colour. The green is a perfect base for some hard weathering.

Hi Guys!
Some progress on the winch. It is not finished yet because I need to rework the top of the winch. I diluted the oil paint with purified linseed oil and however it paints really great, it won't dry. Even after three days still as wet at the time I put it on... and it collected unfortunately some dust too. When I finish the painting stage I will redo the whole progress but then with dust colours.
Comments and tips are always appreciated!
Cheers,
Jurjen

That photo of the MAZ is great! Especially interesting are the rust spots and the variety of colors in the faded areas.
I am really interested in this build because you are using a pretty bright color for the base and toning it down. I also have a MAZ kit in the pile and the size and complexity of it makes me appreciate following some builds of the kit. I'm really glad I did.
Has anyone released correct tire upgrade for this kit yet? My understanding is the kit tires are too flat in profile and should have a quite pronounced bulge around the circumference at the tread surface and the tread cleats themselves are misaligned.

No accurate new tires released yet...you can see my analysis of the initial parts of building this kit in my barely budding blog. (I swear I will get back to it soon...honest.)
Good job Jurjen, I am trying like mad to get to work on mine. Really.

The panzershop wheels are resin copies of the Trumpeter wheels. They still have all the same problems, only this time in resin!
Personally, I think that they are a waste of money unless you feel you need the wheels made of resin.

scratch that idea of ordering them. upon closer inspection and comparing them to some photos that were posted i saw they didn't have quite as bulged a tread surface profile as i thought. the tread cleats around the perimeter of the tires are still angled rather than straight up and down. of course, since they are just resin casts of the wrong thing to begin with, not surprising. why would they even bother going through the work of casting and marketing these without correcting the mistakes? it certainly isn't going to enhance their reputation as a trustworthy supplier of AM products. looks like waiting for the right ones to come out resumes...

Anyone have any idea what the wheels just announced by Tank Workshop are like?

I just shot over to their site and checked them out. They sure look better than than the kit's set! They are offering both a set for the tractor, a set for the trailer, and a complete set for both tractor and trailer. I couldn't really tell how prominent the bulge was across the tread surface, but I think they nailed them! I didn't price them, but I think they will be a "must have"!
EDIT: Prices per their site are $25 USD for the individual set for either trailer or tractor including spares; $45 for the complete set, tractor, trailer, and spares. Shipping is extra. I ordered the complete set.

Hi guys!
I'm sorry for the delay of any regular updates. Unfortunately I'm very busy with school and so but today I found some time to work on the MAZ. I think the tractor is about 60% of the painting and next steps will include adding dust en finishing the paint chips.
I hope you like it sofar!
Comments are always appreciated.

Looks very good! Did you redo the winch cover which you said wouldn't dry or did it finally work out? The green seems very bright but contrasts the weathering and rust very well! I hope mine looks as good when I get to it!.
