I'm thinking of a 1/35 BTR-80 in Chechnya project. Can you guys suggest which kit to use, available aftermarket stuff etc?

Any good detail reference pics would also come in handy.

Thanks,
Mario

There's only one basic kit reboxed by several manufacturers. Rest assured, if Zvezda or Revell have a BTR-80 kit, inside is the old Dragon kit.

The best answer is too add some PE from Eduard and maybe upgrade/conversion from SP Designs.

The problem would still be the lack of "fatty" tires... I have the old Shanghai D kit, and chances are the tires would crack over time. The resins out there are okay, but not the "fat" version which is used quite often than the thinner ones... Anyone out there that has access to the dimensions and profiles of the "fat" version with open hubs please let me know... Thanks!

Hi
there was a US brand named MB Models which issued a resin BTR-80. I can't tell if it's still available and if MB is still in the market, my guess is No.

The kit came with metal parts and some PE parts as well. This is the one I display on my site with the SP BTR-80A turret.

Thanks for the replies guys. Jacques I haven't seen those upgrades before, really nice... Any reviews of those somewhere on the internet?

I have several DML kits of the BTR-70/80 and BRDM-2, and have never had a problem with the tires. Now the ones in the Zvezda kits are a different story. What ever they use will melt the plastic of the kit.

Can I assume from this that the DML & Zvezda (is there a Revell one too? Can't recall...) kits are then not simply re-boxes of each other? If this is the case, and the DML one is said to be good, I'll look-out for the DML one locally...

I concurred. I got the zvezda btr-70 and the 'rubber' ate the plastics. My only solution is to get the SP design wheels...
