Started this model awhile ago, but kit is so bad, I had to put it aside untill I gain enough experience to work with it.
Have a question that seems noone knows. What is this thing? Do I need to drill it out?
Also, does anyone has walkaround (or climbaround?) of the top/roof of such vehicle?
Thanks in advance,

I will see what I can do for you at my next visit to Bovington in 4 or 5 weeks time, looking at the number of WW1 vehicles they have I am sure they have one of these, and it will depends if I can talk to the right person. Last week my daughter got to climb around inside one of these beasts.

Thanks, Darren! If it is not too much trouble, that would be great!
For now will work on major components. There is enough work to be done too.

Looks good so far but I'm not an expert. I'm currently rebuilding a Tadpole tank myself.

With the machine guns it got a little bit complicated.
I am building the version of a tank that was in use by Red Army during the Civil War. Emhar offers to instal Lewis machine guns, but on photos I have there are Hotchkiss guns. As you can see on the picture (top) both of them are very lousy, especially the mounts. So I cut Lewis' mounts in half, and made new mounts to better resemble the actual one.
Tracks are actually very handy to allign the sides of the hull.

Was able to get a picture of that "secret" device I ask in my first post. But the purpose of it still being a mistery.

Alex,I've been doing some digging on the web also on your question. I still thank its an intake for the engine. Here is one web/site that has some good photos. But they don't show the vent on the top.http://www.wwi-models.org/Photos/Bri/MkV/index.html

in any case i think you should drill it out Alex. it possibly is an air intake, although why its hiding behind that cylindrical thing with the pipe coming from it is beyond me. good luck with the rest of the tank mate.

Alex I am really sorry I completly forgot about this, as the only time I have been to Bovington since then they were moving the tanks into a new home that has been built. I am sorry I let you down.

Darren, don't worry about it. I had to put it aside for awhile anyway. And over that time I collected enough info to finish it now.
Thanks for an idea for diorama. But I am not a big fan of "muddy" models, especially after I spend so much time trying to get it into proper shape and historically-correct look. With this one I will go more for an a-la parade/museum look.
Thanks anyway!

the museum look is a good choice. nice and easy, and as you said it doesnt hide all the hard work that you did to get it all historically correct. i tend to go for the "near new" look with my tanks, i hate the look of rust and mud all over them. that just ruins it for me.
i cant wait to see the tank finished mate!
by the way, what manufacturer is that Mk V from? i want to know so i can stear clear of it until i've got a few more kits under my belt.

The kit is from Emhar.
Dean, I have only about 6 finished models myself, that is why I have been building this one for awhile. The main problem with it is the allignment of parts. It is terrible. Even the thickness of a plastic is different, so I had to improvise. Also need to make sure tracks will sit straight.
I also had to redo the MG turrets, since they are totally wrong. You don't even need the blueprints, just check against pictures of actual tanks.
So unless you REALLY want to have this one for your collection, don't even bother... I still didn't decide yet what to do with the tracks. They are way too thick!
