Hi,
I am about to start serious construction on my Leopard C2A1 MEXAS. Currently, I am trying to ID all of the areas in which I will need to add the anti slip material (what I like to call Military Grade "Grip Tape" since it is very similar to what I used to use on my skateboard decks). I am planning to use a textured spray paint that I picked up at CND tire as it seemed to turn out well for Rick Saucier's Leo. 2A6M project.
From the references that I have collected (DND photos and MMI Oct 07 & April 08) I know that the ASM is applied to the top panel of the turrent MEXAS armor, the top of the turrent stowage box and on the top of the turret itself. Are there any other locations where ASM is applied (i.e. around the driver's hatch area similar to the Leo. 2A6M)?
Also, in some of my photos the surfaces with ASM applied appear more black than green. However, in one of the DND photos showing a Leo being rolled of a cargo plane shows all of the surfaces are quite green. Is the material applied after painting or does it depend on when the most recent coat of paint was applied, exposure to weather, etc?
Any information, tips, photos etc that you could toss my way would be more than appreciated.
Thanks,
Duncan

The top of the MEXAS modules, the turret top, and the top of the bins are the only locations for the anti-slip.
There is nothing around or on the driver's hatch.
The material is applied before painting.......the darker colour is likely a result of dirt accumulations due to the rough and porous surface.....quite common. Wear and tear and weathering and boot traffic all cause the paint to change shades over time.
I am happy to hear the MMI articles are going to good use.
Good luck with your C2 MEXAS.

Jason,
Thanks for your quick reply! Your assistance is always appreciated. As a predominately WWII German armor builder in the past, it has been quite a challenge to get up to speed on modern Canadian Armor.
Cheers,
Duncan
PS The two MMI artricles are coming in quite handy. Have you thought about submitting articles on the Leo 2?

I have completed one article on the Canadian Leopard 2A6M and currently working on another.
If modern Canadian Armour interests you make sure you drop by here.......

The anti-slip texture is already molded in to the module top surfaces and turret bin. Pretty much have to add it to the turret top though. Check out Dan Hays' C2 photos on Prime Portal for the turret areas.
