After the destruction of my M-48 I regrouped and started a new project, the Dragon SU-100. I did add an aftermarket gun tube to this project, my first, and I believe I will be using more of them in the future. I still have not worked up the courage to use PE again....but I will. Here are three before painting photos of my SU-100, basicly built OOB.

Good to see ya regrouped and moved on, that can sometimes be the hardest part after a project stalls/fails. Sometimes the hardest thing is deciding what to build next.
Looks like a good kit, can't wait to see it painted...

That's great !
I'd love to have that kit and build it as nicely as you !
If you wish to improve it easily, you can get yourself some PE grills. It would be a nice detail, and it's an easy PE part to work with.

Nice looking model you've got there, it's also good to see something being built OUTTA-DA-BOX for a change, much as I enjoy looking at masterpieces of the after-market parts producers, it's refreshing to see something OOB... Jim

Nice job. I did the SU-85 in the white color scheme then drew branches on the surface with an alcohol based brown pen. Red circular identification tab on the top. See the Squadron series on Armor in Russia for a painting of the original. Regardless, very nice workmanship.

Thanks for all the encouragement, makes modeling a pleasure. The links are individual, as far as I know almost all of Dragon's kits have individual links. They were not hard to assemble after I reviewed the excellent article on making tracks by Bob Lester here at Armorama. I did try to replace the retaining straps on the extra tracks with small diameter solder flattened to represent straps and I replaced some tie downs with solder bent to shape as well. These were just experiments to see how it would work, the result was ok, nothing more. I love the gun tube but I do wish the AM gun tube had replicated the kit tube relative to attachment.

Did you add the dents to the fuel drums or did the they come like that? Anyway, looks good. Now we need to see some paint!

This kit had the fenders and the fuel tanks pre-dented. Had they not been I would have dented them up a bit using an x-acto knife and scotch brite, works like a charm.

I used a Jordi Rubio gun tube. The part number is TG-40. Shows it as Soviet 100 mm for SU-100 or T-54

Have started painting the SU-100. I am trying the preshading technique. Here are some photos of the finished preshading. Looks really rough in process.

Tankera,
Nice job so far. You might be interested in a SU100 done by one of our Russian modelers.
The feature story is in Russian but there are a lot of pics. Click here.
Cheers,
Jim
