Does anyone know if ICM’s Studebaker would be an appropriate prime mover for the BS3 100mm gun during WWII?

If not, could someone else suggest an appropriate kit / vehicle that would’ve been used to haul that huge gun during that period?

Thanks,
Noah

Absolutely no. The Studebaker US6 is a 2.5 ton truck and the BS-3 gun weighs 3.65 ton, I think is not posibble for a US6 to tow one of those guns... But, who knows? I've heard about GAZ-67 cars towing Zis-3 guns... Best regards.

Hey Noah,
The Russians received large trucks from Lend Lease so it's probable that some were used as artillery prime movers.
The Red Army used tracked vehicles such as turret-less light tanks like the T-60/T-7-/T-80 and various tractors to tow artillery.
Here's a few sites that may be of help:

Not aware of any available kits, there may be some in resin somewhere.
MiniArt have a T-70M towing a 76mm ZiS gun and a YA-12 artillery tractor in the works, no idea when it'll be available.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the 2.5 ton limit on the US6 refers to the maximum recomended OFF-ROAD load limit on the bed of the truck. Not sure what the draw weight is, but it is quite a bit more. For example, the weight limit for road use is double the off-road limit.

My guess is that it could pull the BS-3 with little trouble. Also, the Russians were notorious in overloading their trucks.

Jacques is correct. I'm not sure if the Ruskies used them to pull the BS3, but it was more than capable of doing so. It is feasible and would probably look good with it. I say go for it.

Yes, totally agree, as I've said before, I've heard about GAZ-67s towing Zis-3 guns, when the limit was a 45 mm gun... I'd go for it for a change. Best regards.

Please someone correct me if I am wrong but I thought the current release of the BS3 waqs a post war version. Please tell me I am wrong and I will get one today. On the same ideal were lend-lease trucks used postwar. I assume they were but have never seen a pic of one. Scott
