Hi Neil,
I like it a lot. How did you paint the camo scheme? Which paints did you use? I like especially the red-brown. I 'm looking fo such a light colour.
good job

It looks great, but it's not historically accurate.
1+09 and the others outfitted with the single link tracks had Zimmerit and soft-edge camouflage.

thank's for your comments men
hi spit
the paint, well i read somewhere that tigers were sent to the front painted in red oxide primer then the crews would paint the camo colours over it. so i decided to try the same approach and i painted the entire model in "rust-oleum hard hat rust-inhibitive primer 2169 red" (i acquired it from work) although i think that any red oxide primer in a rattle can will work.i then bought some revell aqua color reddish brown, matt 37
i found this to be a near exact match for the red oxide so in future i'll use this.the yellow is model air sand yellow 71028 and the green is model air 71012 dark green.
hi herbert
if i had known that 1+09 had zimm then it would have deffinaitley got it as for the hard edge camo that'll teach me to look closer at the instuctions but as always thank's for the comments and the help
hi tim

Rot Oxid primer as camo color will remain one of the most hotly debated points concerning camouflage. My personal take is it didn't happen.
But, regarding this, when the isue was given to sparingly apply camo over the Rot Oxid, tanks were finished in hard edge at the factories, no longer in the field.
Here is a very nice shot of 1+09 taken after the Battle of the Bulge:

Neil,
A very outstanding build! Super job on the multi-colored hard edge camo especially your representation of the red oxide primer. I like how you left the commanders cupola workable for placing a figure or not! Nice figure too! Nice set of pics!
Thanks for sharing and keep those big cats coming . . .

Hi
Exactly what it says. One would be sprayed on and have a soft edge normally associated with spray application. The other applied with a brush or possibly using some form of stencil to give a hard "clean" edge.

Very Nice Neil
I'm working on this kit right now and it's my first experience with Magic Tracks.
Did you use the tracks that came with the kit?
I'm trying to figure out how to hold the straight runs steady as I glue them because neither top nor bottom is flat
I was thinking of stealing some playdough from my daughter to improvise a jig.
Also - why did you leave off the fenders? Did they typically ride without them?
Thanks!

Hi,
Did you state that this tank had zimmerit? I don't see any in this photo, plus why would Dragon issue this boxing, which is a "one off" without zimmerit, if the actual tank had it, then release a new kit with zimmerit, without these markings??
Brad

Here is a very nice shot of 1+09 taken after the Battle of the Bulge:
The Zimmerit pattern is hard to see when the photo is this small, but larger reproductions of this other other photos of the 506th Battalion in the Ardennes show the coating in place. Only a handful of tanks delivered in August and September, 1944, had the experimental new pattern tracks and 18 tooth sprockets, and apparently, all went to the 506th. Once field reports confirmed the success of the new track design, it was approved for production, but the stock of old tracks had to used up first, so it it doesn't reappear until March of 1945, and then only on a few tanks delivered just before the factory was surrounded in the Ruhr Pocket. These did not have Zimmerit, but did have some very late features (additional fuel tank vent lines, rain guard over the gunner's sight, and reinforcements on the curved front mudguards).
