Good day all -

Have finally managed to tackle and finish DML's King Tiger. Wanted to do something different with the camo pattern, so used some previously posted pictures of the pattern and had a go at it. Otherwise built OOB.

Hope you like them. All comments & criticism welcome! Thanks for looking!

Cheers -

Hei Tim

very nice build and paint job. I like the scheme a lot!!!
I would have made it more weathered, but that's just me.

Is there an octopus scheme with red oxyid primer - dark yellow?

Keep it coming!

Regards,

A. W.

The scheme came out great, the build looks good and crisp. My only critique would be to add more pin washes to recessed areas for shadowing and to help the detail pop out more.

Looks like you did a great job on this one Tim. The model appears very cleanly built and the finish is really well done. I also like the wooden tool box and the rust on the rear exhausts. The octopus scheme looks very realistic and the spare tracks on the turret are looking good to.
Like Scott already mentioned, I'd weather this guy a bit more by adding a few more washes, a bit of dirt where appropriate and maybe some mud on the tracks. Other than that this model is really nice. A successful build indeed!

Nice Kingtiger! The paint scheme looks great! Why did the Germans use this pattern?

Nice KT Tim and a very nice paint scheme. I do agree with the others, a bit more weathering will really bring it to life, other than that you've done a great job on it.

Why did the Germans use this pattern?

Good question, anybody know? All I know is that the Germans gave most vehicles a Dunkelgrün base coat during the later stages of the war. Perhaps they were experimenting around, stuff happens like that sometimes.

A. W. - Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked the scheme. Don't know if there was a pattern involving red oxide primer and dark yellow, majority of the pictures I've seen were of the green/yellow color. I have seen a drawing of a brown & yellow scheme, but that's about it. Hopefully one of the experts can assist with the question...

Scott - appreciate the comments...am thinking of going back and doing it again...the details looked pretty good before I added the flat clear coat, some of them disappeared...whoops!

Ed - I've seen a few other completed models that folks have posted on-line with varying patterns, I'm sure artistic license would be acceptable.

Mike - Glad you liked it as well, used Mig rust pigments for both the spare tracks and the exhausts, applied them wet then brushed off some of the excess. Didn't want to get a lot of mud on this one, am going to save that for the Sd/Kfz 7/1 am working on now.

Rob - Thanks for the comments...will go back here with another pin wash, hopefully it adds more to it.

Martyn - Glad you liked it. Not too sure why the Germans used this, I think there was only 7 KTs painted this way, from what I've learned. I liked the pattern and wanted a challenge to paint it.

Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment. Definitely appreciate it! Hope everyone's New Year is off to a good start! Cheers -

Thanks, I know that the some kt's were painted with three tone "light and "shadow" for forest on the defence.
