Here's my latest project, still WIP. All shading and weathering are done with oil paints and Mig pigments since I can't use my airbrush here. When finished, it will be sitting on the back of a 7/2 halftrack.

Hey Philip!

This turned out really well. I think the amount of chipping on the Flak is just right, not too much and not too little, you got it right. The shading is great, especially considering the fact that you were only able to do it with pigments, very nice (I find the subtle amounts of rust to be great as well).
I personally wouldn't know what could be done to make it look any better, I'd call this one finished. What are you still planning on doing?

Nice job, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result (especially if it's as good as that awesome Jagdpanther)!

Update: I am working on the halftrack. I built this when I didn't have putty, so there's some big gaps in this old kit. I recently got some, so once I figure it out, my future builds hopefully won't have them any more.

Paint chipping the vehicle was fun though.

Nice work there Phillip! Like how your gun came out, as well as the 7/2. Am working on the 7/1 version, about ready to start the weathering. Had some gaps in that build as well, am looking to cover some up with a tarp or maybe an air recognition flag.

Keep at it! Thanks for sharing!

Cheers -

Hi Phil

Well, as others have said nice chipping and weathering, you've done the old girl proud. I have one of these but I can't decide to go straight with what you get in the box or go OTT with aftermarket stuff.

Only time and the "buying department" passing any order request will decide

My only other comment would be the tracks, they could do with showing a bit of sag, but if you've used the kit supplied vinyl ones you may not have the option to create it.

Some use thread to pull them down onto the roller wheels, or pins stuck in the side of the kit holding them down. Some go the replacement track route, which I'm considering on mine. Then again for the price of replacement tracks you could get the Trumpeter half track (certainly on ebay if you are lucky) for around the same price and rob the goodies out of that.

Well done

Andrew

I got mine off of ebay (UK ) for a reasonable price, less in fact that buying it new I think. They do come up from time to time and may do so more now that it appears Trumpeter (and possibly Dragon) are releasing more kits based on this half track. It must be only a matter of time before they get round to the gun mounted versions.

If you still want one to build right now as I said try ebay but also I think if my memory serves me correctly that luckymodel.com or maybe hobbyeasy.com have shown these from time to time as either in stock or available.

Please be aware "available" means that you could have to wait some time till the kit is sourced, obtained and put into stock for you.

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions.

Update:

As for the kit, I see this one show up on Ebay quite a bit. This one really could have used aftermarket tracks though, the sag is difficult to get right, so I just made the basic shape. Also, I need to figure a way to fix that gap where they connect.

Next on the to learn list:

more oil paint effects
camouflage without an airbrush
mud

I could kick myself, I used to have this kit back in the day, but sold it off when doing a stash cleanout to fundraise mods to my Evo! I sold it for around NZ$47 and now looking at having to pay NZ$90-115 for one!
I'll check out those sites you recommended

I tried to make some effects with oil paints on this one. I think they are more of the artistic style, but cool nonetheless. The contrasts are much more subtle in real life, I need to find a better lit place to get photos. I haven't finished yet.
