Hi Andy! Those trees are looking good, but they appear to have all the tops cut off!
If this is going to be the full height, maybe it would be a good idea to point them a bit more at the top to avoid this cut off look. Also the branches could a bit more plentiful at the top and the lower branches, have no leaves at all!
But your method for making trees is brilliant...... and look quite realistic!
On digital dioramas there is a good article on how to make these pine trees by Charles King. Maybe you have already seen it? One other thing to take into consideration is if you are using the trees as a backdrop, keep them thick but if you want to see the action through the trees, no leaves down lower would be an advantage, but you could also have a few trees blown up to add a nice effect and improve visibility. A good reference for this would be one or two episodes of Band of brothers, where easy company are dug in and waiting in the trees, and coming under fire from german mortars. just some of my opinions that might be a little help.
Looking forward to more updates ..........

Nice job so far.
If I may offer a suggestion on the trees, I would suggest a bit more sag in the branches. Not to much just a bit. I might add a few more limbs to the trees too.
Not quite following the mortar pit base. Will there be two mortars? And will the trees be in the big open space on the mortar base?

Regarding the trees, just as Slodder suggested I would add more branches and perhaps attach them in a more random pattern. Right now they seem to uniform. Where I see a branch on one side, there is another on the opposite side in attached at almost the same exact spot. I would also add some texture to all the tree trunks.

Andy, nice looking dio so far ! About those branches I agree that you use more branches, but look close at a real pine tree...there IS a pattern in pine trees !! Observe the real thing close !

Hi guys
Thanks for all the comments, Plasticbattle that is something i have trying to work out how to do making the tree tops pointed, and in the article i used the one from digital dioramas he said to have the branches spread apart.

Pointy top - kinda a tough part of the tree. Check out the real trees as Eagle suggested. The tops of the white pines in my yard are similar to an umbrella made out of tree bows.
The top most branches are short versions of the lower ones. They also have a more vertical angle to them. so as you go higher on the tree the branches get shorter, closer together, and at more of a 'steep' vertical angle.
You may even be able to go to a local hobby shop and find adequate dried vegitation to do the trick.
