Russian paint varied from lot to lot that pretty much any shade of green you choose would not be wrong. I've seen deep forest green to pea soup green and everything in between.

well Calvin according to the Tamiya instructions you have to use XF-61 which in my opinion needs to be lightened up a bit as on it's own the color is too dark but as a lot of the guys on here will most likely point out that the shades of green on the T-34 varied slightly depending on the factory producing them

If you can get them vallejo russian green is nice... if a little too bright this can be dulled with a wash and then weathering, but the the shades of green varied from tank to tank not to mention the various different factories pumping them out. but i'd see if anyone else replies, i'm sure there's someone here who would be more in the know about russian armor. Like Charles said....pretty much any color green. They used whatever was available.

Personally, I use Gunze Russia green 1 and darken it sometimes & lighten it other times or straight out the bottle as is.

The question of "correct color" comes up every so often here on the boards. You can take a look at this thread for another discussion on the issue.

Calvin,

There are indeed a lot of choices. As a preference, I use Acrylic Model Master Russian Armor Green, #4807.

Hmmm....I have a bottle of the Tamiya NATO green....may have to try that out on my next one.

4BO was a very dark olive green. The Acryl / ModelMaster Russian Armor Green is too light. There was variation in the coloring but I would stick to the dark shades.

Imo the best colour for a war production t-34 would be humbrol 86 light olive, with the center panels shaded humbrol 94 mixed with 86 again. i use it myself and i like it ..but i took the idea from Mr. Kristof Pulincky .....dont really like vallejo russian green..but thas only my opinion

I seem to remember a previous thread and Steve Zaloga mentions using Tamiya Field Grey - which is actually a faded grey green...

I used it on my KV-II and it looked great. I hit it with Dullcote and it looked like a million.

Give it a try...you will be surprised.

I agree. Vallejo Russian Green is great paint. I used the Model Air on my JS-2 and I am amazed at how well it leveled out. Great stuff.
