you need to get more information about how to make a Dio, the idea is good it is a challenge to make.
If i was you i will make a nieuw base for the tree, for exemple use foam it is easy to make some pits. Use a lighter for exemple against the foam the eat will make a hole be carfull otherwise the hole will get too big , so go easy there. For the trees here is a nice typ:
https://armorama.kitmaker.net//features/135
It is a nice begin but take more info in the forums do not be afraid to ask others, i find that your pretty much brave too show your work carry on DO NOT be afraid, critics will made you get better in your hobby.
Try what i told you then your dio will look much better and look around your house it give imsparation to create try this
make your dio as much realistic as you can and as i told you compair it with what is around your house, then show it to your familly and ask them they re opinion about it.
ALWAYS GET IN TOUCH WITH everyone here for advice they will always help you on the best way they can

Nice progress. The snow is very good. The trees are coming along nicely, the broken ones add a realy nice touch.
Couple of things. Be aware of what direction you position your motars. The fire angle either has to be really high or they have to face away from the trees. It looks like you're already thinking of this with the broken tree on the right.
As RIMA pointed out the connection points of the trees to the base could use a little TLC. I would add a bit of putty/clay/Celluclay around the base of each to smooth it out and create a more transparrent transition from the base of the tree to the ground. I would also consider adding a bit around in general to make the ground a bit less uniform and flat.
As you proceed you need to consider equipment and crew positioning with relation to the snow. Think through the 'story line' you are portraying and evaluate where the crew would be walking placing equipment moving snow out of the way mounding snow to get it out of the way etc. Think about where crew activity would turn the snow into mud or slush.
Before all is said and done - don't forget the edges of the base. Either treat them as is - putty them smooth and paint or add some thin molding to give them a rounded look.
It's coming along well, keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Hi scott
Thanks for the comments at this very moment i am putting a layer snow underneath the trees to cover up the base. I am just waiting for the figures to arrive before I start moving the snow around.

Good deal on the trees and snow. I totally understand about a project going through a lot of different phases - ebbing and flowing as techniques and parts are found and tried.
My comments are offered as just that comments - point out things to think about.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi Guys
I have just uploaded three more photos into my webshots album they are of the trees with there bases done and a bit more damage done to a couple. Do you think I should put some debris on the ground?

Andy,
you should definately do something extra to the ground... add some broken off tree trunks, the occasional rock here and there......
Go to a pine forrest and take a pic of it. Go home and look at the pics what you see. Rebuild that.
Building something by rememberence is hard..... we tend to remember different things than we have seen. A pic solves this problem.
