This is the DML early hetzer.
It's built OOB except for a jordi rubio cannon.
The weathering was done with oils and pastels.
Any questions or comments ? Go ahead, I can hear anything !!!

Very good job. I also thought the weathering really added to the realism.

A really great weathering job PenPen. Love the effect and the streaks really set it all off.
I actually think that the hetzer is a boring vehicle (just my opinion, not trying to start a war)........ no contours and needs a good paint job to pull it off. You have succeded! Great work!!

penpen,
Really good job on the streaks, but as this is supposed to be a constructive critique, I will say that I think that the rust effect you have tried with the pastels on the roadwheels has been overdone.
You should try to tone down the effect as it is not realistic.
oil streaks and rusting around the bolts would be enough perhaps some paint chips....
I hope that you don't mind the ideas.
Remember that German armour was reasonably well maintained, and even if the tanks didn't get to see the workshops / fitters that often, they would not have had time to become THAT rusty....they would be destroyed long before.

Well done on the rest though. (++)

PS. If you "rusted" the vehicle up that much, then perhaps the tracks and the spare tracks on the engine cover could suffer rust effects as well????

PenPen, I am familiar with the effect you have used here for the streaks.
Well it is nicely done, I would suggest bleding them in much more, especially the ochre ones. The streaks should be very subtle and not as pronounced.
Nice work,

Andrew

Hello guys and thank you very much for the comments !!!!
They'll help me a lot with the next model !

Well, the roadwheels are not rusty ! I only tried to make them dirty ! The problem is that the pastels I used to represent earth and dust are too reddish... next time, I'll use lighter shades. In fact, I wanted to represent a rather new vehicle, but a bit dirty. That's why I did very little rust on the spare tracks and such places.
Next time, I'll also subdue the streaks more. I agree that they show a bit too much, mainly on the front glacis.
To be honnest, it's the first time that I try to apply all these weathering techniques ! So, for a first time, I'm very happy !
Next time (which is pretty soon) I'll know better what to do and what not to do !
I don't realy intend to place the vehicle in a dio, but I may just change my mind.

Thank you !!!!

Hey PenPen. Maybe with a light filter coat of the base colour misted on you could still tone these streaks down a bit, without changing the overall appearance. If that is what you want to do!
I personally like them and would go more for the artistic license area of modelling, than worrying about perfection. Therefore I would leave it as it is, says one who like the dirtier models better! At the ned of the day its down to what you prefer yourself.

Nice job Penpen! Yes this model needs a good paint job and yours turned out brilliant!
About the dirt...If you donīt want to retouch this model, just make a simple ground base for it using the same reddish colours? Just an idea...

Envar, I must say I'm just thinking the same way as you... but then i'll have to work on a figure to accompany the vehicle ! That would be some good practice for me...

Penpen,
If you donīt feel like doing a figure, you can always add multiple furry farm animals in the scene!

Pen:

Very attractive model here. Its obvious you have put a lot of time and effort into the finish. The different weathering colors provide a lot of visual interest. I like it! Congrats.

ps: the streaking effect is well done!

HI Pen Pen

I agree with the other comments about your streak colors. And a nice base should help. You don't HAVE to put a figure there. You could just pose the TD on the base, and that way the dirt/rust controversy will disappear. I have to admit that my first thought was that someone left the Hetzer in the rain...

Of course, I think all models should be on a base of some kind!

Nice job.
Any comments on building the kit?

Cheers
Andy

From the photos it looks like the numbers and crosses are much cleaner than the rest of the vehicle. I would maybe shoot a mist of the dark yellow over it to tone down the white of the decals.
If that vehicle was here in North Carolina the mud color would be perfect for our red clay mud.
Good Work!

Hi Penpen....Looks good ...maybe just fill your airbrush with a very well thinned Tamiya buff color ...just over spray everything a bit and it might bring everything together...spray more on the bottom and lighter on top ...This will blend the colors together and get rid of the too red color in the pastels but leave the dirty look you are after ...give it a try I'm sure you'll love it ..

Richard (mais il est super comme įa aussi!)
