Not bad, Execellent paint job.

but the Hood is Fiberglass on the HMMWV series, even the Armored VersionsM1114. I believe the doors of your version are either Kevlar or Fiberglass as well. Most of the Body is Aluminum except the roof and turtleback is steel and I believe the trunk lid is fiberglass as well.

Yo Calvin, it is pretty simple. The front is the hairspray method building up the paint so the Desert yellow has been "burnt off" The rust is MIg pigment, two coats the first one is put on then fixed, the second one is put on then rubbed with the finger.

Then I used some pastels for the lighter rust.
THe front of the bonnet is black and white pastels.

Thanks dude, I am trying to find out what the bonnet or hood is made of but fibre glass sounds a bit bizzare to protect the engine. Haha we will have to meet up for a cuppa.

Body is aluminum I know that, the hood I think would be the same.

Frame is steel of cause.

Gino and rest would know.

Yeah what do I know, I just used them for 20 years.....

When AK Bullets went throught the Hood of My M1114 if it was aluminum why would it have a weave texture and splinter where they bullets exited the hood?. When M998 & 1025, M1114 get into road accidents why does the hood break into pieces as opposed to crumple like a metal unit would?

Frankly I dont care, I was just pointing it out, do with the information what you will

Great looking model and well achieved burned out technique!
As described above, the hood doesn't sound or feel like metal. And the angled top rear part felt like the same material.
I only know this by handling a couple during an open military base day.

Body is aluminum, but the hood or bonnet if you will, is fiberglass. The doors on the version you've built are kevlar. You'd be surprised how much of that vehicle is plastic, like the fan shroud, fuel tank, etc. Take a look under the hood of a standard Chevy pickup truck and you will see plastic galore.

As Banshee and Rob have stated, the hood is fiberglass, body is aluminum, frame is steel, doors are kevlar (which also burns nicely) or fiberglass, the rest is mainly plastic and other flamable materials. As Seb's pictures show, they pretty much melt down when burned. So, no, yours is not realistic at all.

FG or not, it looks great Martyn!!
It's definitely one of the more difficult paint jobs to do and you've pulled it off superbly.
Having just used the same process to get a similar effect, I know how much fun it is

I especially like the colours and effect around the front of the vehicle.
Extremely well done.

The reason why I DID HAVE IT BURNT OUT, was because I wrecked the paint job so I smashed it up gave it a new trunk and went from there. I am havign serious thoughts in waether to take the bonnet off or not, I will have a look round at pics.

the old stuff looked good but not accurate,
the new stuff looks to be even better! I'm glad you went in and redid it, those reference pics Seb posted are a goldmine. Looks like your model is on its way to looking just like the real thing.

Keep going and please post again when you're done.
