A bit on the vehicle for starters: it is a self propelled gun, built on the panzer III chassis. It was equipped with a powerful 8.8 cm pack gun, that could penetrate enemy armor - so giving it it's name: tank hunter, or panzerjaeger in German.
Due to it's weight, the armor was thin, and the vehicle could not compete with tanks when engaged closely. It remained the most effective anti tank vehicle until the arrival of the jagdpanzer IV and jadgpanther.
on the kit: It's my first 1:72 scale kit, as I've always thought that tanks should be build in 1:35, because they are, well, tanks - beasts of metal and firepower!
I was very impressed when I opened the box. The sprues were of great quality, all details crisp and nice, didn't see any flash (though I did not examined the kit that well, it's kinda late here ) . I am most excited about it and hope to make something nice out of it.
hoping to get started tomorrow, cheers all!

today's progress: worked on the superstructure (if that's the word) of the nashorn - built the lower hull parts. also did the idler wheels, which will not be added until I finish with the tracks. painting the model in Africa brown color. also, i made some reviews of my own on the instruction, thinking on replacing several things with copper wire. The kit comes with the rear doors closed. I think I would work on my modeling skills by making them open. I think i have the hint of an idea: making the hinges with some foil and wire.
sorry for the quality of the pictures. I'll try and get my hands on a decent camera next time

well, been working on the tracks today. they are link and length of good quality. hardly any cleaning up. made some screw-ups on them, cause I'm not used to building the track so i'm pretty much feeling my way around. hoping to get better results on the other truck. should be getting a camera this evening so stay tuned

well, what can I say?
the model isn't coming as i was expecting, some couple of miss-fits making it really bad looking (a gap of 1-1.5 mm between lower and upper hull) some parts have broken during assembly. I don't think I'll continue this model as my skills aren't adequate enough to make something of it (or whats left) models should be fun, not frustrating

Maybe take a little break from this one, work something new and then come back to it. Like Jon said, we've all been there, so no worries. All is well, remain calm!

Hi
Sorry to read you've given up on this one. Got to admit I sometimes consider getting a 1/72 scale model to try, if only out of nostalgia as it was all I could afford and was available to me when I modelled as a young lad. Now I think the old eyes wouldn't cope !!
Braille scale is the main forum here for 1/72 etc. scaled kits and you should be able to pick up info on what's good or bad for your next build. Alternatively check out the review section here. There is also a site dedicated to this scale but I've lost my bookmark to it. Maybe somebody else reading this will provide the link.
Anyway, good luck with your next build.
Alan

to erik fuller: yeah, one has to learn from mistakes, and learning from other people's mistakes is always better
anyway, yesterday I've decided to pick it all up again, did some painting etc. I'll post pictures soon, so you can judge what came out of it tried to imitate a shell hit on the vehicle, and some damage
