This is the Trumpeter IS-3M. I didn't expect too much for $20.00, but this turned out to be a nice kit. I set the major sub-assemblies together to take this picture. I had a large gap at the front of the turret but was able to fill and sand it without loosing the nice texture.
I lost a headlight so I used a set from my spares box. Unlike the kit ones, they have clear lenses. I had a problem getting the tracks to take paint. I used a product called Instant Iron followed by Instant Rust and it worked fine. I think the rust is a bit heavy and will probably remove some as well as wash and drybrush the tracks.
The tank was painted Model Master Acrylic Sand washed with Burnt Sienna Oil paint (my first wash). The decales went down with no problem.

Thanks Steve. I'm still not satified with the look of the tracks. Too much rust, I think. So I'll ponder that for a while.

Charles

Mean looking piece of equipment, hate to have been on the wrong end of that.

An article in the July-August Armor magazine (the professional journal for the US Army Armor branch), refers to the entire Soviet heavy tank series (JS-3 included) as white elephants and not very decent tanks.

On the other hand, Chuck's tank is impressive! Nice job Chuck!

Chuck, you did a wonderful on the build of this beast! Very nice job.
However, that pinkish color was making me crazy...so I took the liberty to correct it a bit. I hope you don't mind.

Yep, that's the look I was going for Rob. #:-)
Thanks Ken. I need to figure out my lighting better. BTW, how did you adjust it?

Eeek! Not those! Good one Rob. I hadn't thought that that was the look he was going for.

Charles, I used Paint Shop to adjust the Hue of the picture. It seems to me that you used florescent lights. Correct?
Florescent lights will produce a greenish and blueish tinge to the picture, while incandescent lights will produce a yellowish tinge. If at all possible, use natural sunlight (indirect of course) or use a flash. If that's not possible try to mix the two types of lights together -florescent & incandescent.

I have Paint Shop Pro and I'll try messing with some of my pics.
