Avoid them. The DML BRDM can be built into a respectable model with some work- but I have a feeling that Trumpeter will be bringing out some modern soviet stuff. BTR 70 for sure and more(?)

The BRDM series are cast with a solid resin body that weighs a pound! The resin casting is very clean. The detail is overall impressive. Expect some warping and breakage of the smaller parts and some boxes never came with instructions.

You devil!!! First you got me with the BTR - 70 teaser, now this??? Incredible news. They look the part and I see the Dushka has been updated. So i guess we will see BTR-60 (PB?), BTR 70, BTR 80, BRDM 2. SA-9 etc.... ??
Sure will be a good year for Soviet / Warsaw pact

Are you serious?? I just began scratch building my BTR-60PU last Friday. I'm also working on couple of T-80 lower hulls, are Trumpeter planning on releasing it too? Please say yes

Wow that's quite ambitious move...
That's it, I'm scraping all 2 of my BTR hulls. Good thing I didn't order 3D printing of suspension assembly. Any time line for these kits?

Do you think about producing 1/35 MT-LB, Strela-10, MT-LBU, 2S1 family as a replace of old & wrong SKIF kits?
I think BRDM-2 master is identical to M-hobby drawings, BTR-60PA too.

Trumpeter is KILLING me. Will I have ANY money to spend other than on all this cool Soviet gear coming out?
A good T-80B kit would be greatly appreciated as well.

While we are at, I really wish Trumpeter no to turn a blind eye on post-WWII Soviet and American heavy tanks, JS-4, T-10M and T29 in particular

I'm really pleased with the announcement of the oncoming Trumpter kits of BTR series.
Now I know that there is a BTR-60 coming up. But what are the other upcoming Soviet cold-war kits . If it is not a secret
Also when can we expect those kits on the shelves?
Best regards

Maybe I should have called this thread "What new kits would you like to see from Trumpeter?"
Either that or "The Trumpeter R&D update thread".
Out of 16 replies so far, only 2 are actually on topic.
No other opinions about the Verlinden BRDMs from the resident Soviet experts here?

hi,
I have all the kits from Verlinden. they were done at a time when they were the ONLY game in town. can't vouch for accuracy, but they look Soviet, assemble reasonably well and can usually gotten fairly cheap.
I enjoyed building them. hope this helps.

Actually, Gaoyue's comments are relevent...as in, you may be more interested in waiting for the plastic kit.
I have two of the Verlinden kits, and one freind has built the BRDM-2. They are a bit light on detail by today's standards, but they were really good when they came out. The main hull is solid resin, which adds weight, which can be good or bad.
Accuracy wise, I can only say that they look the part when built, but I prefer (at this point) the DML kits over the Verlinden ones.
I guess the verdict is that if you already have the kit(s), they may be a fun build. If you are thinking of pursueing a kit, you may want to wait for Trumpeter's kits, if you can.

Thanks for the input Jaques, John, Chris & Len.
And yes, the new Trumpeter kits in the pipe DO indeed look interesting (but how imminent are they?!). I was though interested in hearing a cross-section of opinion on the Verlindens specifically, since a dealer I sometimes use is flogging some off cheap and I was wondering whether to take a punt.
I was thinking of maybe investing in two or three, but maybe now I'll pick up just the one as a try-out.
Thanks again, guys.

Steve,
I built the BTR-60 back in the day and it was pretty primitive, but looked the part once complete. It weighed a lot though as it was a solid bodied piece of resin. The tires merely glued into slots on the sides of the lower hull....and it was warped. Personally, if you can get them cheap, they aren't bad kits to add to a base with some terrain features to help hide the warping shoud it be there. They are kind of limited on what you can do with them since they are solid cast...ie, no interior unless you are extremely dedicated or driven. Tires couldn't be posed/turned either which made for a rather boring presentation. Hope this helps. "Q"
