Well ive been working on this guy for a few months now and im at this point. I was inspired by Ron Volstad’s box art from the DML Panther A late kit # 6168. This is one of my favorite tanks of all time, so I have enough research material and detailed pics, from the Panther A at Aberdeen Maryland to the Littlefield Panther restoration that I visited a couple years back…Also the Jentz an Doyle book ‘Panzer Tracks’ No.5-2 came in handy so many times.
I used the newer Dragon kit #6358, with the Eduard photo etched set for the same kit #35977. The Zemmerit was actually done from using ‘DAP’ Drywall mud/joint compound, almost like thick whip cream was spread out let dry and sanded, then I scribed the pattern with a dull #11 blade, and any further sanding if needed, then to seal it I covered it with Tamiya extra thin cement, with the green lid. I also added a set of Friulmodel tracks that I scavenged from a older model from the bone yard…
Welds were add using stretched sprues around the Travel lock, antenna base, fuel an coolant filler caps, all Armored periscope guards, commanders cupola, and on the pioneer tool brackets mounted on the sides
All of the armored periscope guards from the kit were to thick and square…so I found some scrap evergreen Styrene strips about 5mm thick. I slowly bent them in till they were the right size. Although the Eduard set has photo etched schuerzen hangers, I dident use them…I felt that the detail they have will never be seen when I hang all the skirts, they will be saved for the next project. So I trimmed an thinned out the kits stock ones.
Now, I was ready for paint.
I started by spraying the whole model with a cote of red-oxide primer, a mix of XF-9 ‘Hull red’an XF-2 ’Flat white’ both from Tamiya. I let that set for a few days then I came back with a coat of Tamiya XF-60 ‘Dark yellow’ also thinned out with some white. Again letting it sit and cure for a few days. Then the camo, XF-61 ‘Dark Green’ mixed with XF-5 ‘Flat Green’ to give it some depth, Right after that some Red Brown XF-64.
Letting it all set for a few days more, I came back and preformed a few light to dark washes on it using ‘Winsor & Newton’ Lamp Black and Burnt ember oils, with Mineral spirits.
I still have lots to do!
Comments and concerns welcome!

Very nice Russell, love the camo & the Zimmerit. Have just completed the Zimm'd G from DML; strange, I see you get skirts in the A, but not in the G! What turret no's are you using? Any plans for weathering?

I have one on the work bench, well its been pushed to the side actually, should get it finised.
If it looks as good as yours I will be very very happy.

Thanks everyone for the comments!
Steve- As for turret numbers, yes… this tank is going to be from the 3rd company, 1st battalion of the 12th SS So red numbers with white outlines, im trying to depict a panther that fought around Norrey France on June 9th ‘44 The tactical numbers are either going to be ‘326’ or ‘327’

Nice job Russell! Did you seal the entire Zimmerett surface or just the lines. Nice finishing job as well.
