A few photos of my efforts so far. [Photobucket[/img] Photobucket[/img] Photobucket[/img] Photobucket[/img] Photobucket[/img] The Real Model conversion is beautiful with the exception of some vague areas in the instructions and the rear hull plate fitting poorly. It compares very well with the Trumpeter ASLAV-25 kit of which I have included a few photos. Photobucketimg] Photobucket[/img] Photobucket[/img] It is my first time posting photos and I had a rough time figuring it out so expect some errors. Jeff.

Thank you guys for the comments. Miloslav, I was able to find Mr. Hobby Color H340 so it will be painted field green. Cheers, Jeff.

The hull almost finished. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket I needed a break from building so decided to prime, paint and weather the hull. I was happy with the basecoat, shading and fading but disappointed with my heavy hand with the MIG pigments. I now have to try to tone this down, any suggestions? Frustrated, Jeff.

Jeff cracking build and paint job. What did you use for the dust on the running gear and the lower half of the hull?

Thank you guys for your positive comments, it's much appreciated. The steps to the hull to this point were: 1) Tamiya gray surface primer. 2) Mr. Hobby color H-340 field green diluted with 15% Flesh. 3) Shadow effect with straight base color. 4) Lightening effect with base color diluted with 30% flesh. 5) Clear coated with straight Future Floor Polish. 6) Two filter applications from MIG for bright green and light green. 7) A pin wash on all raised and recessed details with MIG dark wash. A very light dry brush with lightest base color. 9) Flat coated with Valejo Model Color matt varnish. 10) Wheels painted with Valejo Panzer Aces dark rubber and given a MIG filter for panzer gray. 11) A light dust coat was given to the upper and side hull with heavily thinned Tamiya buff. 12) A dark mud/dust coat was given with haevily thinned Tamiya flat earth to the lower hull and running gear. 13) MIG pigments Gulf War Sand was brushed and stipled into the upper and side hull. 14) MIG pigments African Earth was brushed and stipled into the lower hull and running gear. 15) The pigments were set spraying straight Tamiya thinner on the hull. And thats where I'm at. The pigments are great but can easily be overdone as I did, be careful. Cheers, Jeff.

Jeff,

A good way to tone down pigments is to surgically apply Testors Dull Coat with your AB. The DC will "wash out" the pigments.

I'm not sure how the Tam fixer you applied will effect this remedy. I have found applying the pigments wet (with tap water and DW liquid) offer more control.

You also might try applying a thin coat of the camo color over the pigments to tone them down a bit, again set to low PSI and very thin to coax back some of the base color.

A neat trick is to go back over the wheel tread with black pastel applied with a ladies makeup applicator, it darkens the top of the tread and looks as it has been traveling on a paved surface.

HTH
Good Luck
Ryan

Been there, I usually try and have a test tank close by to try out new techniques and fixes!

This is a good tutorial for these vehicles I already copy/paste your method in Word.
Now I need to convince my wife for a compressor AB, which gonna be difficult with the new baby

Jeff,

Before you paint the turret you are going to need to modify it a bit to be correct.

You have to remove the protruding camera on the mantlet above the coaxial machine gun port....this is a feature only found on the LAV III and not the Coyote. On the Coyote this area of the mantlet is completely smooth.

Are you using those old U.S. style metal jerry cans or going with a modern Canadian plastic version...such as produced by Maple Leaf Models?

For the rest of the folks if you are interested in the Coyote conversion keep any eye out for my full review of the kit coming soon.

Thanks James. Yes, I did do filter washes and a dark pinwash but they were negated by the pigments. Cheers, Jeff.

Thanks guys for the comments and constructive guidance. Ryan, I will try your technique to tone down the pigments and bring out the wheel tread. Jason, thanks for the heads up on the turret gun camera and the jerry cans. Yes, they are from the Trumpeter LAV-25 kit. I had nothing else to use and MLM is on hiatus and did not know where to source them. I will hold off on the turret until Miloslav sends me the proper cans ( thank you Miloslav! ) and remove the gun camera lens. Cheers, Jeff.

Is the Real Models a conversation for the Trumpeter LAV 25 or a full resin model. Fantastic work
