Hi guys,

i have just started building the above kit and have a question concerning the colours that this tractor is painted in. In the painting instructions there are two choices of camo scheme for this tractor and i would like to do option B. One of the colours listed for the scheme is Mr Colour "Light blue".

My question is this. Is it actually a light blue or a light grey? in the colour profile it looks more like a light grey than a light blue so i amn a bit confused as to which one it actually is. The second part of my qyestion is what is the nearest Tamiya acrylic colour to either the light blue/light grey?

well,

I read your post and tried to find pictures of the actual vehicle. Google showed me 10000000 hits, all related to the Trumpter kit. When I excluded the word "Trumpeter" from the search, the resiult went down to a lot less. The only picture I could find of a blue tractor is one of a model on www.modelmaz.com and that shows a very bright and light blue. Ofcourse this is not a 100% correct colour, but I think it is safe to bet that the vehicle was painted some kind of light blue and not light grey. Perhaps they took some paint they had left over from a SU-27, who knows........

Someone will kick my behind in this thread for this post because I dare to make such an assumption. . But more than that I hope someone has a real picture of a blue tractor.

Matthijs,

thank you for your input, I did the same as you and was still confused.

I am no expert in modern Russian AFV's which is why i am asking for clarification.

Best answer is that it is probably BOTH grey and blue. Also, if it uses the same colors as other Russian equipment painted in similar fashion, then it is most likely a grey-blue color initially that tends to fade to a more nuetral gray rather quickly, or at least more quickly than the greens and tans I have seen it with. Look up color info for T-64 or T-80 tanks, especialy in the Concord books, and you will see similar paint setups.

Also, Here is a link toa couple of pics, about 3/4 of the way down. In the pics, it would best be represented by a gray color, but I would make it a touch warmer than just nuetral gray, maybe with a touch of light blue.

Hi Jacques,

than kyou for the response. I had seen those two photos before. Atthe front of the tractor the colour looks like a light grey, but three quarters of the way along it has a blue tint to it. I think i will go with Tamiya's light grey and maybe add a blue filter to the grey.

i'll let you know how i get on

perhaps this colour on the bumper gives a clue, it's not much I know:

don't you love Google, when you type in Russian airplane tractor it gives you this:

(nice detail, the painted prop)

Isn't Trumpeter on this site somewhere too? They must have a picture of the real thing. I stop searching now before this thing turns into my personal Moby Dick.

Hi Mat.

thanks for those, the second one made me chuckle

As for the blue, that looks like a much different shade to the one i am talking about, but thank you for looking.

For the Tamyia colours, try XF-25 / XF-66 or even XF-12.
