Thanks there Henrik.
Added a few more details and some light wear and tear. Filters and washes are next and then i'll install the tow cable, travel lock and range poles before I apply the pigments to the upper and lower hull.

See Ya Later

Wow, that looks good! This is a different paint-scheme than the "standard" ones.
I like these fine details inside. (equipment)

greetings...

Small up date for you today.
FriulModel tracks fitted and tow cable installed.

Time to pull them back off and trim the link pins. I'm going to give "Tank Rats Track Black" a try this time instead of "Blacken-It". I'll let you know how that turns out.

Thanks for coming by

Hello Tony,
Very nice build. I especcialy like the camo-sceme! One question though: What are the red-white striped rodds at the rear of this little baby? They look like things landmarkers use.
Cheers

Thomas people have been calling them range poles but a RL arty guy told me they are aiming post
for indirect fire when you can't see your target.
They stick them in the ground at like 25 and another at 50 meters on a known compass reading then they use them to calibrate the sight and the gun tube together. That way they can then make right or left firing adjustments to hit the target by degrees.

I was in the Air Force for eight years and that's the best I can do to explain how those arty guys moved mud.

Thanks for coming by and the comment

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the explanation! All clear now.. They'd better have had good anti air nearby when using those...

Thank You Baker. This morning I tried out something I really like. "Black4Tracks" a product from
Tank Rat at AFV Depot. Man that stuff really works well for me. I can now finish a set of Friulmodel tracks in a day instead of three or four with the other product on the market.

Here's how they look right out of the soup, dry and ready for my oil washes and pigments.
Black4Tracks cured my silver spot plague.

Thanks Tank Rat

Hi Tony,
excellent work so far my friend, love that camo. Are you putting this beast on a dio or putting figures with it?

Hi Paul and Mark glad you came by the shop and Thanks for the comments too.

No dio Paul but I do have a lot of figure sets I just haven't took the plunge with them yet.
I do want to learn how to do figures and they are definitely in the future.

Mark there were no magazines or pouches for the MP 40 with the kit. Plenty of 98 clips and ammo for the MG but not the MP 40s. Being new to the hobby I don't have any in the extras box either.
I guess they are stored in one of those boxes around the casement somewhere.

It's almost always a good time to make corrections that's why I go slow just in case someone has one for me.

Thanks Again guys

Hi Tony
Just a thought, Im reckoning that Dragons Self-propelled Gun Crew (6016) would look mighty-fine servicing your Hummel. And with your fine detail painting skills they'd work a treat. Like I say, just a thought.
Keep us posted on your brilliant work!

Paul, I got those and the Premium set of them too. NP I love thoughts and suggestions my friend.

What are your thoughts about how these look now after one coat of Burnt Sienna oil wash for the rust effect and a couple of weaker mix Raw Umber oil wash coats to tone the Sienna down.

Thanks for lookin in

Hi Tony ,
Hey, they really look the business, a bit of graphite on the contact points and pigment in the nooks and crannies and they'll be just like the real deal.
Ive recently completed DMLs Hornisse and after seeing your Hummel its already on my Christmas wish-list.. hope youre listening Santa!
Keep up the excellent work Tony and keep them pics coming!

Phase 3 track progress.
A little rubble dust and sand paper to this point.

So what do you guys think, should I stop right there or not? Never been around a real tank in my life.

Hi Tony,
I'd say stop there, then once theyre fitted to the Hummel you can add pigment, mud or whatever you like to blend them in with any final dusting down of the vehicle. This should be easy as the tracks are still easily accessible on the Hummel, ie no armoured skirts are in the way.
That 'black4tracks' is certainly good stuff! Im going to see if I can source it here in the UK
